Yeah, that title was far more dramatic than needed, but who cares, at least someone read it...I hope.
I am Talothyn Greycloak, a VERY long time fan of the WoT who is new to this community.
It is difficult to write about ones self in any meaningful way, but I will give it my best shot by following the suggestions posted in the sticky.
Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time and why?
Lan, definitely Lan. ESPECIALLY after reading A New Spring. Why? Well that is more complicated.
Nothing in my life has ever been what you would call normal. I have always felt, growing up, somewhat the outsider in any crowd. The person who, when everyone around me is having a good time, is instead standing watch.
In college, I translated this to some extra money working the doors of a nightclub near where I lived.
I feel this less than I once did, but now the reason I identify with him is his goal oriented approach and willingness to sacrifice to get what he is after.
My favorite quote of his is from A New Spring where he is explaining to Moiraine that the man he had just killed was the better swordsman but he forgot the most important rule: Surrender AFTER your dead.
How did you find TarValon.Net?
I was looking for a Wheel of Time community on the internet and came across the Library section.
What do you do? (student? job? hobbies?)
Work full time, game once a week, read when I can, train martial arts, and I recently bought a house. Sometimes I play with the local SCA group.
Where are you from?
Oklahoma and Texas mainly. I currently live in Tulsa and travel extensively throughout the region.
What languages to you speak?
English and Bad English. Seriously though, I am a native English speaker and can get by in spoken Spanish and spoken and written Irish if I have to. Also I speak a few hundred words of Japanese but CANNOT read kanji to save my life.
What is your favorite book or author other than Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time?
Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files.
Well, that drew a bit more out of me than anticipated. Hopefully this helps people get to know me.
