Quotes like that, plus all the Foreshadowing in the first books, is what makes me certain that RJ had most of the main plotpoints for the main characters made clear before he published the first book...

Finished Chapters 9-11 in The Great Hunt. Am I speculating that the woman that Uno saw in the windows (that disappeared) is Lanfear? I really feel like it was and that she was following Rand. Also, what was the Flicker / Flicker that Rand experienced? A Bubble of Evil or something else?

I agree with the idea that the mysterious woman is Selene/Lanfear, but at this point I think she was more trying to see who might be the biggest threat Rand, Mat, or Perrin, before settling on Rand.

Doing a technically not allowed double post to say, yes, dive into The Great Hunt if you haven't already! Here's a link to The Great Hunt signature if you'd like to include it.

I'm currently on Chapter 26, "Discord". I'm still primarily listening to the Pike versions of the audiobooks on my commute 4 days a week and anytime I'm out biking, so I'm plugging along at a good clip. I think I'm averaging 2 chapters a day.

I've had so many thoughts that I've been meaning to share here, but RL things have kept me away from the forums! 😭 One of my favorite things from the audiobooks in particular: Rosamund Pike seems to try to imitate the show actors' voices as much as possible if she knew what the actor sounded like when recording The Great Hunt. Her Siuan voice in particular sounds so much like Sophie Okonedo that I can picture Sophie Okonedo in each scene. It's a wonderful subtle nod to the show.

Rand's adventure with Selene at the Illuminator's house in Cairhien. Was interesting to see how she keeps pushing him to develop his capacity to access and even use the One Power. Also, the encounter with Thom (the reunion) was an interesting insight into how Thom was really torn between leaving his "intrigued filled past" behind and starting flesh. Makes me wonder about what he was really able to do after the Memory of Light...

In ch14 of TGH, Mat refers to himself as "the only sane one left from Emond's Field". Which a) made me cackle again, because sir you are bonded to a cursed dagger; and b) I don't know if it was intentional but Mat saying it so simply made me really pause for a moment and think about the character development for each of them thus far. It gets really easy for me to hyperfocus on Rand as THE CHOSEN ONE, but really they're all starting to develop into heroes of their own sort.

Thom was really torn between leaving his "intrigued filled past" behind and starting flesh.

Typo or not, this statement is true as is. And where his companion then was taking him a in a certain direction, his later companion seems to offer a resolution of this dilemma, in that both the intrigue and the relationship, the mind and the body, are possible with her. Another interesting character development arc

Gah, Selene in the books drives me nuts. She's so obviously evil!! Like, "Rand, get the horn for the glory! You'll be a great man, Rand! But what about seeking glory?" Not a subtle bone in her body. Only a woolhead like Rand would fall for her hot evil lady nonsense.
