this one

Personally ... feeling bad. I don't think RJ would have been a fan of this. Also, I think this is the forum for this - but I'm not totally sure?

As a general rule, I'm not a fan of AI taking the place of human creativity. It's soulless, and takes away jobs that people would actually want to do from the people who would do them and could really use the opportunity, all in the name of costing the company less money. I think this could be cool if people didn't need to work to make a living (so the AI would be supplementing human creatives, instead of replacing them by devaluing creative work to a point where people can't afford to work in the field because companies simply aren't willing to pay for the work) but we're not in that reality.

I appreciate the claim that D1srupt1ve is dedicated to the "ethical application of AI technology" but I can't help but wonder what that means, as the article doesn't elaborate. Does that mean that they're only training their AI on material that they have the rights to use? What kind of a price did they pay/deal did they make for the right to use that material that way if so? What is a fair price for this kind of usage, anyway?

winteriscoming.net has an article on this that's worth a read

As for a general AI discussion, this isn't the right forum, but I want to add that I completely agree with Cinna. I think AI could be a useful tool (and a fun tool allowing people like myself to make their own avatar) but it should never be used to replace art. And it should never be allowed to take jobs from people much like machines shouldn't

Chiming in that this doesn't have anything to do with the show or Amazon. iWot is Red Eagle rebranding itself and RJ did NOT approve of them whatsoever

The Business Wire article is so full of buzzwords it's hard to actually tell what this even is. It's about WoT, but it's also a personal assistant? But only related to WoT? And it's also a game? Just, wtf. Oh, and of course it will sell you stuff. This is just bizarre.

I have this sick feeling like WoT is going be subjected to endless cash grabs, like Harry Potter. I'm also deeply annoyed that this is giving Red Eagle another bite at the apple, when their first foray into WoT was ***horrendous and insulting***

I feel like creativity and real human connection is at the heart of what so much of WoT is about, this whole project (whatever it is) is kind of antithetical to some of the central themes of the whole story.

This is highly unethical, and I don't think Jordan would have approved. This is incredibly insulting to the fans, and to artists and creatives who would have done actual work in the universe if Jordan had allowed for that. This is antithetical to the entire idea of creativity and art itself.

I'm not sure why people here are complaining about it, really.
Those two groups seem to be involved with ethical AI usage.
They talk about services like digitization of the encyclopedia and maybe broadening it, gaming experience, etc.
The art part is very small and we have no reason to think it will suffer from copyrights issues like generic AI made images on the web.

I think people are being too judgmental here before this this even has time to take off. After there was a thread talking about the lack of merchandizing for the show, this could very well solve a lot of those issues.

People are displeased about this because iWot/Red Eagle isn't a reputable company and Robert Jordan didn't approve of them himself. They shouldn't be holding the rights to WoT. I don't believe they're going to be ethical about this at all. They're not being too judgmental when this company has a bad history attached to it

I'm of two minds about the use of AI in artistic endeavors. If it is being used by artists to make their jobs easier (like say with animation / CGI), then I'm okay with it. If it's being used to create original art in order to steal jobs or downsize or whatever they want to call it, then it is very much not okay.

I think in and for itself get too the root of it its a bunch of 0's and 1's, its in sofar a program, and as much as I am at times happy to utter statements in frustration of datastuff having motives, at the end of day I also know its not true. Data is just that data, its not to blame for usage, utilization and so on. AI in itself isnt nesicarily a bad idea, just early stages, its up to use to regulate it and utilize it in a good way, technology changes the world, wheter its in a good or bad way is up too us.

But so far as it being a treat to our excistance well that always been a debate with every new advancement, because it brings change...and well as much as we sometimes want and drive change, we also feel challenged by change. I dont think AI is good or bad, its data, and it can be used for good or bad, in a good way or bad way, and like with any process, what you put into it determines what you get out, put in crap and you get crap out.

Its on us not the program, its our use not the program, so I think the big thing that need to be discussed isnt use or dont use AI, but how too and like always politicans are sleeping and behind on regulating development and thats what need to be addressed, not really development of new programs or industrialization. We are living in the 4th industrial age, living breathing history as it happens, but I dont think thats going to make the world go under any more then the previous 3, though am sure they had the exact same debates then.

So no I dont think AI is a bad idea, nor is it a good one, its an opertunity in its infantsy, and its up too us to develop and use it in a good way, or sadly in a bad too but thats always the case, some will misuse things. But thats why we have laws, to regulate and catch those who arent responsible enough, without hindering the rest.
And I really dont think its realistic to think it will go away, so the focus need to be on regulating usage, to allow it to develop in a good way rather then digging into a ditch discussion wheter something thats already here should excist or not, because every time we do that the train leaves the station and we are running after if we look at history. We cant stop change, we can direct it, but change will always happen, it always have happened even before technology as we know it today existed, its part of nature and life before we existed and will be long after we are gone. So I think AI just is, and the question like always are how can we behave in a good responsible way with it, how can we use it well, because its on us not the 0's and 1's
