Dareth d'Rahien
Soldier
...Or so went the song when I sang it, a decade ago[SUP]1[/SUP]. Now it seems I may be a warder of a different type, someday[SUP]2[/SUP]...
My name is Dareth, and I'm the husband of Elorenya. I wouldn't go so far as to say she bodily dragged me in here, but she has a way of making rather convincing suggestions that would likely feel familiar to anyone who's spent time around Aes Sedai[SUP]3[/SUP]. I'm a little over halfway through my first read-through of the Wheel of Time; I've been reliably informed that there's a lot I have to look forward to, yet. In the meanwhile, I can't really say I have a specific favorite character yet, but I do in particular enjoy seeing the Pattern yank Mat around. (My least favorite character is a fair bit easier to decide on, though[SUP]4[/SUP].)
By day I'm a programmer; by night (and morning and weekend) I'm a father, and in between I'm a gamer and game designer, a curler, a poker player, an artist, a hockey fan, and on rare occasions a writer[SUP]5[/SUP]. And a reader, of course; my favorite book series at the moment is probably either Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga or Charles Stross's Laundry series, but like all other things that's liable to change by the day.
Anyway! Greetings to all of you. Elorenya speaks highly of this community, and I look forward to being a part of it.
[1] My lone theatrical role in college, as one of the title group in Yeomen of the Guard. It's perhaps the most melancholy of Gilbert and Sullivan's comedies.
[2] At the very least, I'm assuming the outfit will be different! The color-shifting cloak seems like it might clash with the traditional "Beefeater" uniform.
[3] Or Wise Ones, or Windfinders, or...
[4] I'd probably enjoy Nynaeve's viewpoints a lot more if she had the self-awareness that the Creator gave a cantaloupe.
[5] Writing footnotes being a particular hobby of mine, if it isn't already obvious.
