Hal Bahalla
Resident Citizen
Hello Tarvalon. I’m new to the city and staring wide eyed all around in wonder like it is my first time off the farm. What a wonderful corner of the world you have here, I am grateful to have found my way here and been welcomed into the gates.
In way of introduction, I was first introduced to The Wheel of Time in college in the very late 90s. I read up through the nineth book or so before loosing a bit of steam. Some 30 years later (boy do I feel old), I decided to dig back into the series and see if I couldn’t finish it this time.
I got hooked pretty strong this time around and just recently finished the final book. It was with some strong feelings of joy and sadness that I closed Memory, knowing I wasn’t quite done with the series. I was eager to jump back into a reread to see the series again with new eyes, now knowing how it goes. I’ve begun and am looking forward to catching up with the reread going on in the forums.
As I recall, my favorite books were Lord of Chaos and Crossroads, but I expect that to change and adjust as I go through them again.
Of the main characters, I like Perrin the most during the early part of the series, and Matt in the later books. Of the minor characters, I found Rhuarc and Berelain individually fun to read, and their relationship enjoyable to watch evolve. And the relationship between Pevera and Androl was an unexpected joy. I would have loved to see more of them.
I am a voracious reader, mostly of Scifi, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy. Jim Butcher’s Dresden files has been a long time favorite of mine. And while not quite as deep as some other worlds, the Demon Accords books by John Conroe are a guilty pleasure. The novels are fun, fast reads that I go back to. A recent author and series I found was the Culture Series by Ian Banks. I’ve only read one, but enjoyed it and will likely return again.
In addition to the book discussions on the site, I’m looking forward to joining a Mafia game or two. I’ve never played but have wanted to. I’ve been lurking on some of the past games seeing how it goes and look forward to stumbling my way through a game myself soon.
Well that’s probably a decent start to an intro thread. I look forward to meeting everyone in the community and making friends.
