Elorenya d'Rahien
Aes Sedai
Hello, Tar Valon!
Yes, it's another newbie. I found your library first, ages ago, and long before I realised that, hey, there's a whole site and community connected to it earlier today. I've spent the past few hours wandering through the Membership Manual and related topics before taking the plunge and joining; I like to know what I'm getting myself in for!
Anyway! On to the mini-questionnaire:
1. Favorite WoT character and why?
Oh, god, you're asking the hard ones first?! That's a little mean. How could I possibly decide? I love Egwene, for being a butt-kicking, go-getting, no-nonsense-accepted woman of no little will. I love Elayne, for herself, because she's trying so hard to live up to everything she thinks she should be. I love Mat, for his sense of humour and willingness to just say, "Burn it, I'll give it a try." And I want to be Cadsuane and Verin's lovechild when I grow up; their combined awesomeness may be too much for one mortal body to bear, though.
2. How did you find us?
Er, as mentioned above, I found the library first -- very helpful for remembering tiny details while doing your nth reread in honour of AMoL coming out (and finally convincing my husband to start his first read-through! Everybody with me now: "D'awww...") -- and happened to click a 404'd link that redirected me to the main page... which told me about everything else you guys have here!
3. What do you do (student, job, etc)?
I'm a stay-at-home mother to an almost-one-year-old son. He's the best baby in the entire world. I won't bore you with details on that score (unless you ask, lol).
4. Favorite book/author (other than WoT)?
Another hard one! I have several... I've been a Heinlein fan since before I was reading novels on my own; my dad used to read me Podkayne of Mars and others of his Juveniles for bedtime stories. They're not perfect (and are, indeed, quite dated, both for their technology and for their social commentary), but I still enjoy them. I'm a big fan of Michelle Sagara (aka Michelle West); she has a beautiful way to turn a phrase that is just poignantly perfect, and from her blog, she's a really nice lady, too. I'm also a fan of John Scalzi, whose works I first read on my honeymoon (snuggly beach reading is the best!).
5. Anything you need help with?
Um, figuring out where and how to get started now that I've posted this? Jump in both feet first? Lurk a while? PM someone chosen at random from the 'Superfriends' list? Pop into the IRC channel when I can? All of the above? Something else entirely?
