If you emailed him/her and they didn't email you back it was obviously of no conserquence to them if you were intending to use their art, else they would've made their objection known.

I have already changed my avatar, not because of artist revoking, but because I don't suit my old one anymore. I do hope this is alright. I kinda did it without permission though... But I have never had the old avatar on these boards

While my new one can be seen as my avatar now. There will be no troubles with the artist of that one, since she usually sits right next to me on her computer :P

It's quite the opposite actually. When it comes to copyrights you *always* need an explicit permission from the artist.

Uidin, sorry, put your old face back on. :P The only changes that are automatically approved are due to revoked/unable to get a reply permission for use.

I'm relatively new so I didn't get a chance to pick an avatar before the site changed. How/where can I look to get one?

I tried looking in the membership manual and bylaws, but the pages aren't working for me. I don't know if it's the same for anyone else, but I'm stil searching the Bugs and Glitches thread to see if anyone else has encountered a similar problem. Or maybe it's just not up yet.

About Avatars

•Avatars, or the images we use on our message boards and the Who's Who, must not be currently in use by an active Tower member.

•Avatars must be chosen carefully as changes will not be allowed after the initial selection. An avatar change is only allowed when the artist of the original artwork denies the usage of the avatar; in which case contact Serenla Sedai, the Director of Membership at membership@tarvalon.net and petition an avatar change. Also, check out this link for a list of artists who allow their works to be used. Citizens can change their avatars without petitioning but they need to inform the site about the avatar change by posting about it in the General forum and include both avatars, old and new.
• Only GIF and JPG formats are allowed.
• Avatars must be exactly 110x170 pixels. No exceptions
• Animated avatars are not allowed.
• Members must have the artist's permission to use an avatar if the image is not in public domain. It is solely the user's responsibility, and TarValon.Net does not take responsibility for any avatars used by its members. If it is brought to the attention of the administration that a user is using an image illegally, the user will be asked to comply with the wishes of the artist.
• Also, there are other guidelines concerning avatars:
o All avatars should be human.
o The avatar shouldn't have broad frames.
o No obscenity is tolerated.
o No real life pictures unless it is your own.

So basically you can choose whatever you want to, but it's your own responsibility.

I have now switched back, and sent a mail requesting a change. I do hope I am allowed to do that, seeing how my old avatar really isn't me anymore.

Mine got lost in the move.....still have it, though......but I have not been able to contact the artist, who apparently does not like her artwork being used without her permission. So, an artist friend of mine is supposed to be making me a new one........which explains why I haven't uploaded my old one yet. I'm waiting for the new one to get done before I set up a face for me.

I got my avatar from the old tv.net gallery, so I have no idea who made it, or whether I'm allowed to edit it or anything. If the artist should decide to revoke use I wouldn't know.
