Please do consider applying for Citizen status when you feel ready to do so, Hazel!
As Arella Sedai said, you just need to have a last name for your site name and an avatar with a humanoid shape. You already have the minimum 25 posts.
When you become a Citizen, you can get acquainted with other parts of the site, such as the Blue Cat Inn and the Olde Warder and Hen tavern (where we have lots of discussions on various topics). There's also the Discord server, as other people have mentioned, which is a great place to chat with people in real time.
Welcome Hazel! Glad to have you here, and congratulations on being in recovery! It's a hard path, but as you know, it's one day at a time. I hope you continue to experience this community as a welcoming one.
As for the books vs. the tv series, yes, I prefer the books, but I'm glad that they were able to finally get something together to draw people in. I like the tv series for what it is, and am looking forward to how they portray future events, knowing that I'll always return for the books for a reread.
Welcome Hazel! I thought Mat was a complete prat at the beginning of the series, but as some other people has said he grew on me. All the five main characters of the series have great character development, I think, Mat included. I fully agree on preferring the books over the TV series, though I really like some of the changes they've done with the series re: inclusivity. Ah, I kinda wish that I could completely forget the whole series and re-read it as if it was the first time you have so much awesomeness in front of you!
As well as all the other things-- one of the things I have always really loved about this community is how many nations are represented . I am Norwegian, myself, and on both of my visits to the United States I have been lucky enough to be allowed to stay with awesome nifty people that I met in this community.
How did you find TarValon.Net?
I found TarValon.Net when I was doing a Google search about the character Selene. Google brought me to the Tar Valon library.
This is how I got here too. But, ummm, that is now nearly 20 years ago (blood and bloody ashes now I feel old) and quite a few books ago, so I bet that page is much more spoiler-heavy now than what it once was :P. I had read all the then-published books when I joined; I started reading the books in 1996 and this was in 2004.
So far, I love the site! I wish I had more time to explore it. It has been a hectic week, and I have a chaotic one coming up. Once my son and I get settled into our new place after the 8th of August, I plan on applying for citizenship because I would love to explore the rest of the site. Thank you all for the warm welcome. I appreciate the warm words of encouragement as well! I can see this community full of great people, and definitely something I want to be a part of! I just started The Dragon Reborn, and I cannot tell you how shocked I was by the ending of The Great Hunt. OMG. I'm like three chapters into The Dragon Reborn, and I'm still reeling from the end of TGH. I cannot believe what Liandrin did. What a b*$@$#!
I do have a discord. I have to find my username and password. I haven't used it in a couple of years, lol. But once I get organized in the new place, I'll dig it up and come chat with you all!
