It usually takes about 3 months to get through the first book.

Now that I'm commuting into work again (booo, can I go back to sleeping in please?) I have time to get back to the RP audiobooks.

I just got to Perrin and Egwene meeting Elyas. Is Elyas the first one in the books to mention the Black Ajah explicitly?? I did a double-take when he brought them up to Perrin and Egwene.

Upon this re-read, it's so clear that Elyas was a former warder. The way he talks about Aes Sedai, and the Red Ajah in particular, in such an off-hand way makes it obvious that he's intimately familiar with the White Tower and Aes Sedai politics. Plus he killed warders when he ran away?? I want to know so much more about Elyas' backstory than I remember we get in the books.

Yay! Welcome!! This is a good reminder that I've overdue for updating the first post...

More audiobook revelations and thoughts in no particular order. I got to Mat, Rand, and Thom passing the Tower of Ghenjei when they're on Bayle Domon's boat. Mat keeps talking about how much he wants to go into the Tower to get the treasure that must be hidden inside. Be careful what you wish for, dear Matrim!

Also more channeling sickness/madness from Rand, as he recklessly balances in the Spray's crows nest before sliding down the rigging like he's been a sailor his whole life. I'm really liking how the channeling sickness is woken so seamlessly into the narrative. RP also pitches her voice in a more careless way when she reads Rand like this. It's still clearly her "Rand" voice, but with a more "devil may care" take on it. She's such a great narrator!

Got to Aram's introduction too. Even picturing his absolutely stunning actor in my head as I listen, I cannot bring myself to like Aram. He's such a smarmy jerk from the jump. Knowing his entire arc doesn't help either. He's so annoying from start to finish!

New year, new re-read? I don't know if I have it in me this year to do another one I've re-read the whole dang thing seven times in the last 6 years. I'll probably loosely follow along though. I'm always strongest up until CoT/KoD, but am weakest in those books through Towers of Midnight for whatever reason.

I'm reflecting on Min's first discussion with Rand in the Tavern stable Yard. So much foreshadowing going on; but I really like the imagery of the sparks trying to fill the black hole and / or the black hole trying to swallow all the sparks. A wonderful image that each of us matters, each kindness that we do, no matter how small. It matters.

Now, doesn't Tam al'Thor know an ageless face when he sees one? When the peddler brings news of war, the Counsel meets and Tam emerges from it saying he'se reassured that there is to be no reason for Aes Sedai to cross the village on their way South. Meanwhile, Moiraine is around.
Maybe he has not seen her yet...

I love it when Tam reveals that other lads have seen the rider, and the Counsel believes them even if only younger folks see it.

Just finished the Prologue 😅
I’m listening to Rosamund and I have to say, the Prologue has never moved me as much as she just did. I’m pretty excited to listen, despite her slower pacing. The emotion she’s already putting in is keeping my brain interested 👌👌

I've listened to the originals so many times, I was afraid the different voice would be unsettling. I'm glad you are enjoying it!
