With the world saved once again, Satrim Kha'os was ready to continue on to bigger, more ambitious things. Sephrenia Sedai pulled up on a team of 6 sled dogs and greeted Satrim with a wave and a smile.
"You look happy," she said, and Satrim thought she looked as gorgeous as ever. Her pale skin was complimented by the falling snow. At the moment her rich, wavy hair was gathered beneath a fuzzy winter hat.
"It's hard to believe that only a few months ago, I had never seen snow. Now here I am riding across mountains of it, being pulled around on a few slabs of wood by some mutts," he said and smiled. Satrim bent down to ruffle the fur of one of Sephrenia Sedai's dogs. When they had first arrived on the Western continent, that type of comment would have offended Sephrenia Sedai to no end--but after their time together, she knew that though Satrim might be a little quick to his words, he was kind, trustworthy, and had a good heart.
"Yes, you were quite afraid of it when you first saw it. I believe your reaction was something along the lines of..." She dropped open her mouth and widened her eyes. "It's everywhere..." she said in mock horror.
"I didn't look that idiotic!" he said and forced out a laugh. "Okay.. maybe I did."
Sephrenia Sedai giggled. "It's hard to believe we're almost done with our work here. To be honest, that's how I feel," she said. "If I could, I'd live out here all the time, but alas duties to the Tower call me back."
Satrim thought she looked honestly sad and felt a bit sad too. "Oh! But I have news!"
"Oh? Is that why you looked so happy when I pulled up before?"
"Yes! I just got my letter of acceptance!"
Sephrenia Sedai looked confused.
"To the Tower! If you like, we can travel back together, Aes Sedai!"
It was Sephrenia Sedai's turn for her eyes to widen in shock--and this time it was genuine. "You were accepted to the Tower? Oh my goodness, why didn't you tell me you had applied? Congratulations!" She got off the sled, walked around the dogs, and gave him a big hug.
"So can we travel back together?" Satrim pleaded. For the life of her, Sephrenia Sedai thought he looked like a big, overgrown puppy.
"Yes, we can travel back together--but just this once! You're going to have to buckle down if you're going to enter the Tower. More respect and all that!"
"Yes Aes Sedai! Yes Aes Sedai!" He backed up and started bowing profusely.
"Okay stop that. It makes me nervous when you're so respectful--no really--stop that at once!"
The two of them laughed and gathered up the equipment and readied to head out. Before he signaled the dogs, he looked over the pristine rises and falls of snow. In most places, the banks were untouched by any living thing since the snow had just fallen. Well, I guess it's a brave new world, he thought and rode off.
