I LOVE that we've made this little focus for virtual events! So perfect, timely, and great for the community.

I would love it even more if there were a calendar to keep track of all of these virtual events and serve as a reminder to those of us who might otherwise space it. I don't know, maybe there is one and I am just dense, but I think it would be something cool to have/do.

We could also crowd source (or whatever). Can a Google Calendar be set up to allow others to add their events to the calendar without the need of a calendar master (or something). Google calendars let you view multiple calendars along with your own, so you could add it to your calendar and also mute it when you don't want/need to see it. A feature I would very much enjoy.

If it can be set up for anyone to contribute, whomever can add their own Netflix watch party, a knitting circle, or a membership groups' open chat to the calendar serving as both a reminder and an invitation.

Thoughts? Please? Yay organization!?

Do we have enough events to justify making a calendar?

I created one to play around with, but I cannot locate a setting that allows people other than myself to add events to it: see here. There's currently nothing on it, as I don't see any upcoming events.

Maybe? I've been to a few membership groups' zooms or whatever that weren't posted anywhere here so I am also thinking those would be worth adding?
I'd like to see it if for no other reason that it may encourage more organic activities like those thrown around here. Rather than just talking about it, and speculating endlessly on when, (use a doodle kids!) get them actually on a calendar. Giving structure to organic ideas helps take an idea from an abstract to a reality.

I may be wrong about that setting, or maybe it wasn't a google calendar that I was thinking about. I used something like this in college- but that was less than recent, so.... Open to ideas and all.

For reference: Doodle. Free to use whatever trial nonsense they are mentioning, ignore it.

Note: Google calendars can be set to your time zone and although things may show up in the middle of the night, or drinking games at lunchtime, you don't have to worry about time zone math, so that'd be sweet too.

I would love if we could do this. It seems like a google cal would be the best option, both functionality and ease of use wise.

Except one person would still need to coordinate everything, and it would depend on which calendar individuals choose to utilize. I made one before (see my post above) and no one seemed interested in me following up by populating stuff until you did, Morgana. ;)

Would it make more sense to have a stickied thread at the top with all upcoming events, if navigating threads is too troublesome?

I'm not sure that one is usable without permissions opened up, though. You should be able to allow anyone to make an event under "access permissions" for the calendar settings. Maybe we could give it a shot once it's available for people to use? It seems like there would be more functionality with that than a stickied thread, since it would allow people to add events to their own calendars, RSVP, set up reminders, etc.

Also, it's possible other folks haven't seen this thread and might not have had the chance to weigh in!

I like that idea!! Having a stickied thread where everything can be updated!

This. Where it's "active events" or what ever. And maybe to help keep things flowing, when the date is finalized, the creator of the posts "Hey could you add "XYZ" date and time?". That way whom ever has permissions to edit that initial post can add as necessary and remove past events. That way for the events where "What dates work for y'all?", there isn't a FBI level of searching for the final date and time.

Is anyone able to suggest anything at any time? One of my favorite games is called "Encore" (we played it at Fall Ball - Sleepy Hollow,) and it translates very well to a Zoom call or the like. I crave playing it, but have no one to play with. I would love to set something up.

Also, the Blue Ajah has toyed with the idea of Drunk WOT, akin to Drunk History. The concept pretty much speaks for itself, but in case you it's not clear, you basically get a little tipsy and explain one book of the series in your own wonderfully buzzed way. It could be fun to open it up to everyone and we do it over an evening. Thoughts?

If you want to do an event, post a thread with the details and it will be linked in the stickied Upcoming Events thread. :) Do it all!
