Rhed al'Tere
Aes Sedai
This year has turned out to be more difficult than many of us had hoped for. I have been thinking about my position as Amyrlin and how it fits into my life for several months before I submitted my notice of resignation in January.
I knew that in 2019 my duties and responsibilities at my Muggle job would be increasing. I was going to be taking on an even bigger role with the journal I work for, with the possibility of taking over the journal entirely from my boss next year. That was up in the air, and there was also the possibility of a job change next year; a lot was uncertain. Regardless, I knew I needed to turn more of my attention to my career, and that required letting go of some other responsibility. After weighing my options, I knew that it was time for a new Amyrlin to lead us.
I submitted my notice of resignation to the Board of Directors on January 21. On January 22, I learned that my boss had passed away suddenly, giving me an immediate promotion to Managing Editor, a change I didn't expect until next summer. Overnight, my job changed while I was dealing with the grief of losing my boss and my friend while supporting my team members as best I could.
I have always done my best to serve this community in the best ways I knew how. The sacrifices were greater than I'd expected, but I never once regretted any of them, because the outcome was worth it. My purpose has always been to serve to the best of my ability, and the best way I can serve at this time is to step down to allow fresh leadership, with fresh ideas and energy, to take over.
It has truly been my honor, and my pleasure, to serve you all, and I hope I have done you proud and served you well. I have so many memories of you, of individuals and Ajahs and Companies, that fill my heart. I have so enjoyed getting to know you all better in your Company and Ajah forums, getting to interact with you on that more personal level. It was a privilege being welcomed into so many of your homes-within-a-home and treated as one of you.
The Board of Directors will put out a call for applications for Amyrlin shortly, and an Amyrlin-Elect will be chosen by the end of summer. I will train them, and at Anni next year, we will have the official ceremonial turnover.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to serve you.
