Department of Community Outreach

- And back to quoting the ever quotable Keeper:
The old Department of Philanthropy is transitioning into a new Department that will focus on activities by and for members, recognizing the good works done by our members, and helping members in need. Kariada will transition into this Department from our old Department of Philanthropy.
Online Events is going to be renamed to the Outreach Activities Team in order to help differentiate it from our Department of Events & Conferences and to better reflect its updated mission of promoting not only the Wheel of Time themed festivals but also holidays and our philanthropic activities.
With such a major shift in focus, and with our recent approval as a 501(c)(7) company, you all should expect that there will be major changes to the structure of this Department and particularly to the way our philanthropic activities are conducted. We have some details to iron out before rolling out those changes but look for more details about this soon.
-In the past, we've been able to make very short term small emergency loans to members in need (past examples include things like money for baby food and diapers for a member's family who were stranded by Hurricane Katrina). Given our 501(c)7 status, given our membership size, and given how we are structured, we will not be able to do this any more in the future. We're not an organization set-up to give loans, regardless of the reason. To do so would open us up to an entirely new world of government regulation and reporting. Members in need will be referred, instead, to our "Helping Hands" program (a program where members can volunteer to assist other members who have a specific need).

Department of Events and Conferences
- Slave Auctions/Da'Covale Auctions - This has been a tradition for us for a long time, and has been one of our most popular fundraising activities. That said, there have always been members who have been uncomfortable with the concept. We discussed an alternative that I am honestly really excited about. :)
In the past, we've auctioned volunteers off for limited time in service without a lot of limits on what that service is (beyond legality, sanity, consent, etc.). We will move now to a system where members may auction their services, but under terms that the volunteer dictates. Rather than having the bidding be about the people, it will be bidding on the service they have chosen to donate. Examples include:
- A 30 minute back massage
- 2 hours of fetching your drinks
- Bringing you breakfast in the mornings at an event
- Writing and performing a song about your charm and good looks
- Making you a custom Avatar
Yes, a volunteer may still chose to volunteer themselves for "eh, whatever" if they like, but this will not be the default. The Auction will continue to be live (because Live Auctions are fun :look:), but it will be focusing on services donated.
- The names we have for events that arn't in North America are not accurate. Summer Euro and Winter Euro do not necessarily take place in the Winter, Summer, or in Europe. We will be looking to create new names for these events (current thought it to use something more WoT sounding, but nothing has been decided yet) that are less specific.

That's it!!!

Short this year! :joy

:look: When has Euro party not been in Europe? Are you saying that future Euro parties (under whatever new name they might have) might as well be in say Australia or Africa? :scratch

Sounds good. :D I like the more specific changes on the da'covale auction.

And yeah, this was super-short. :P You guys are getting the hang of this.

If I remember correctly, saying they weren't in Europe was just meaning that some are on mainland Europe while others are in the UK. The intention is to still have 2 parties per year in Europe/UK

Are there still going to be South Pacific events? That seems to have just about rolled over and died. I put in a proposal for an event two years ago and never heard back.

Could we collapse the MDD Playground of South Pacific forum, which is also a HoC, I might add, within the same current Euro structure? Call it International as per the POV of say...

I don't know...

The Two Rivers?

Strategically balance the entire international community members most active in public forums, as well as live events, to encompass as many of the usual suspects at 2 different events...for now. Seasonal attribute to be ascribed as to the correct interpretation per the POV of the winning bid for said party.

Re-establish boundary when we get more action appropriate activity in the South Pacific region to justify isolation. I know I'd love to move there. :kiss

At this time the only events being renamed are the European ones. I'm sure that renaming the North American Events may be reviewed at a future Administrative Meeting, but not at this time.
