That's largely a function of your browser window. If you change the size of the window you're viewing it in, the size of the forums will change too.

With the PMs, I assume that PMing multiple users has been disabled for just about everyone but the supermods?

I don't know if this is happening for everyone, but the graphic at the top of the page is obscuring the links at the very top of the page (Notifications, Settings, Log Out, etc.). Because the text for those links is white, everywhere the graphic is also white, the links are invisible.
