I find that traveling is more fun with a friend, I have traveled a lot alone though. I think you just have to get out there and do your best to immerse yourself.

Some of the best ways to get immersed into a new culture is to enjoy their food, their music, and their history! So I'd give a resturaunt a shot and maybe a museum?
