Sooo, This might have been reported elsewhere, but I certainly haven't seen anything on this scale.

(If you don't want to watch the whole video and want to skip directly to the relevant section, click here instead to go to YouTube.)

TL: DW - Some estimates seem to indicate that the Season 1 budget for WoT is more than 75,000,000USD which is staggering to me. This puts it as more expensive per episode than the final season of Game of Thrones.

It's just really exciting to hear that they probably (again, nothing confirmed) have the resources they need to do this very, very well. More hype for me, I guess haha.

I was really excited about this too!! I know it's not all confirmed but, like Daniel said, it does make sense that they wouldn't leave WoT with a small budget when their LotR series has a confirmed massive budget. They don't want WoT to fail. It's very exciting :joy

Definitely agree, Eliza Sedai. I'm most excited for the Visual Effects considerations because that's one aspect of the show that I really just can't imagine, and if they were to skimp on the VFX budget, I know it would break the illusion for me. It's so tricky to pull off and my assumption is (not that I'm an expert by any means) that VFX can be some of the most expensive line items in a production like this.

Yeah that's the key in most fantasy adaptations in my opinion, The Lord of the Rings for example, with out Weta?! No where near as successful!

My usual work is in pre-production crews that build the sets and props used for tv shows and films. That number does not surprise me. The amount of work that will have to go into the costumes alone will be mind-boggling. I'm really looking forward to this.

Are we absolutely sure that isn't in some other denomination? I find that number to be absolutely unbelievable... It wouldn't surprise me to find that being the budget in crowns, shich is the national currency of the Czech Republic. (1 czech crown is worth $.04)

The number will be much larger than the average tv show due to the complexity of being largely outdoors, the costumes, many actors, there will need to be horses, removing or covering up anything that does not fit the kind of timeperiod look they are going for, special effects.... a lot of different production departments will be involved, and I would guess each department will have scores of crew members in them. The bulk of the money will go into the hundreds of crew members who are the invisible forces that make these magical creations happen.

I was once on a crew where we were painting the exterior of a house for a week to get all the details right. I reckon the producers spent $100,000 in total on prepping that house and the backyard, and then they were only there less than half a day for their actual filming. Then we had to spend another week painting it back to the original colour for the owner before she moved in. It's incredible how much money it takes to make these things happen.
