It seems like it would be nice to add a thread or two to the new boards here...

Of the first four books, The Dragon Reborn is my favorite, because it was the one that really hooked me into the series; it introduces a number of significant elements, as well as increasing the development of the characters pretty much across the board. And the ending is a very epic, satisfying confluence of threads. (The Shadow Rising also holds a good bit of appeal for me, owing to my love of the Aiel. :))

Does anyone have any (other) thoughts on which of the first four books is their favorite?

TSR, but for a completely different reason. I loved Perrin's story in the Two Rivers! That final scene will always bring tears to my eyes.

TSR is probably my favourite of the first four and probably top 3 for the entire series. Love love love the Aiel, the Rhuidean chapters are definitely some of the best in the entire series. Also this book was the first in which I felt myself liking Mat after being mostly indifferent to him for 1-3. Also also who can forget Moggy vs Nynaeve...

I'd have to go with The Great Hunt, which to this day brings a smile to my face - Thom being alive, Rand discovered by his friends, Lanfear, the portal stones, the Sanchen arriving, the white cloaks and of course Fain, one of my favorite characters.

I think The Great Hunt is my favorite. It's so full of action and important plot stuff. And so many main characters start to come into their own.

I was going to say book 4, but after reading the comments I really have to go with book 2 instead. Book 1 was so much setting the stage but book 2 everything really unfolded for me.

I agree, Megana. That's where it really started for me, too. :)

And I forgot about the Aiel coming in book 4! And that was when Siuan started her journey, wasn't it? Such a hard decision!

The Great Hunt....if not for this one I would have stopped after book 1. This one hooked me and hooked me hard.

Yeah, the Great Hunt starts off really well in Fal Dara. I went awhile between Eye of the World and deciding to continue on, but decided that it looked like it would be worth reading... ;)

Overall, probably The Eye of the World. Nynaeve and Elayne really start to be annoying in four, which brings down their storyline and the whole book, otherwise it would probably be a tie.

I'm a sucker for beginnings. Being fifteen years old and cracking open The Eye Of The World for the first time. Reading the madness of Lews Therin Telamon and then being dropped into idyllic Two Rivers. Meeting Rand, Mat, Perrrin, Egwene For me it was nearly magical, nearly perfect. The best present my parents ever gave me and kept giving for another eighteen years.

Its hard because I love them all, but my favorite will have to be TSR. The Aiel are amazing and by far my favorites. However I also love how this book also gives us a better lookk into Perrin back at the two rivers. It was nice to go back to where it began, even for a short time.

I found it really touching when Perrin goes back to the Winespring Inn, and Egwene's parents ask him if she's with him. It does give occasion to think about the whole thing from the perspective of those who stayed at home and have so many unknowns to worry about.

Eye of the world is my fav of the first four. I have never read anything that took hold of imagination like that before. No matter how many times I read it, it just blows me away at how well it is written.

My favorite would most definitely be The Shadow Rising. I loved the Aiel and trying to understand their ways. What happens in Rhuidean is amazing! I never would have guessed the origins of the Aiel.

Basically, when reading book 2 it was my favourite then I read book 3 and it became my favourite. I love book 4 as well due to the Aiel.. It's hard.. All four books are awesome if you ask me :)

The Shadow Rising was my favorite of all the books until 11-14 came out. The battle of the Two Rivers is great. Perrin becomes a legend here, Perrin Goldeneyes, the Hunter of Trollocs is someone generations will talk about in the Two Rivers. Also Rand storyline with the Aiel is good.
