I thought it was great and he gets better at portraying it in later books. Some people might consider it weak, but it all makes sense, which is what I care about.
It was a great idea on RJ's part. Like you said, Blythe, it closes up the plot holes and it's not only for that. It ties in the entire lore of that universe. It's about destiny and fate and coincidence and I absolutely love that concept from the books.
Though I do think that guilt probably played a part in Perrin saving Faile.
I don't think it's weak at all and if anything pretty clever in something that's simple on the surface but more complicated beneath. I've always believed that not everything in a story needs to have a big flowery explanation for why it's there and can be covered by something that takes away the need for that. It feels more concise to me
