Non plot line or character development dialogue fluff would be the large chunk of things that would have to go. There is quite a bit of it, and it would take forever to film some scenes. Casual watchers would lose too much interest.

Aviendha's trip gives a glimpse into the future, one we wouldn't get otherwise.

Thats true, I mistyped a bit, maybe not cut entirely, but a whole lot of written real estate went into explaining the future. I found it grating after a while.
And darn inconclusive:(

Which brings up another question. To include nudity or not? For example, da'covale, Sea Folk women, some dealings in the Hall of the Tower, Graendal, etc.

I vote yes for Graendal. The da'covale however seems exploitive to me. Slavery and trafficking give me the jumps and I hate seeing it.

In TV, I wouldn't cut anything.... the labored descriptions turn visual, the long cut scenes to show what is going on around the world would take two to five minutes each instead of half of a book, and the inner monologues would no longer exist, which would get rid of most of the angst.

Wheel of Time is one of the few book series that I feel would be better as a TV show, if done right.

I agree that a TV show would work better for such a long series. A lot of the descriptive details, including some of the cultural pieces, would be easily translated onto screen, cutting down on a lot of material.

But, I'm also the type of person that wants EVERYTHING from a book adapted into a movie/TV show. I'm sure some things can be cut, but I certainly wouldn't want to be the person to choose.

There's so much of the series that is the thought processes of the characters, that would all need to be adapted into action. So much of the "detail" about the magic system could just be thrown away -- there's not a way to represent it on screen. None-magic users don't see the magic -- so it's not like they even need special effects beyond making the occasional thing burst into flame or hover.

What would you want to bet an adaptation couldn't resist making special effects surrounding the use of the One Power? Maybe they'd mitigate it, by showing how the same thing looks from the eyes of an Aes Sedai versus anyone else.

Thats what I was thinking, and that wouldn't be too bad. Especially if it's from one of the women's perspective. Won't see a thing when it's from one of the mens. I'd like that. You'd just see the results.

I wonder if it would be possible to do a rough edit of the series where only Mat or Perrin was the single portagonist :look:

Interesting. Would Rand be a character affecting the world "in the background" and only interacted with as needed, then?
