I've been listening to the audiobook when driving and have been enjoying it a lot! It has a lot of whimsical flair

Question- would this book be okay for a 13 yo to read? They've read the Alcatraz series, and Elantris, but thats as far as we've gone into Sanderson's work.
Probably, yeah. Spoiler about general events without going into specifics:
There are deaths (including one straight-out murder I think) but if I remember correctly that's the most adult topic in the book. There are no sexual themes, for example.

I just read this book in one setting, after giving up on "Lost Metal" for a while. I LOVE it! It made me laugh the way so many of his less complicated books do. I read it all in one sitting, it was that captivating :D I have managed to avoid spoilers, except to hear that it was written in Hoid's POW. That much became clear to me quite early on, I'd like to think I would have understood that anyway :look:
I understood almost right away that the rat was Charlie. I hope that wasn't supposed to be a secret. I didn't see the exact incident with the dragon coming, but I knew Tress would at least survive it. I like how she had no idea what she was doing, but always managed in the nick of time. She reminded me a bit of Shallan in Words of Radiance, which is my favourite Shallan. And I like the whimsical tone of the book and it is exactly how Hoid would tell it. I can imagine him telling this to an audience :D

I think I can see something special with this book:
I think I see in this book that extra special something that is why I think Sanderson is the best author of his generation. All his books are great, but I wasn't a big fan of Rhythm of War or Lost Metal. I haven't even finished the latter yet.
I think the main reason for that is that he didn't always enjoy writing it. As many authors, he wants to write something new. I can't blame him, most authors are like that. What I see in this is an author writing something simple that he WANTS to write, not just writing what he HAS to write. I mean, I don't know Sanderson, but that is what I get from how he has described this project and what he wrote in the epilogue...

I hear a lot of mixed feelings about Lost Metal, I still haven't gotten around to it yet. Very hard for me to get cozy and read these days. I'm not comfortable in bed reading like I used to be a few years ago, and I don't like reading at my desk, because I am at my desk all day for work/games. Can't go to the library, my library is too loud and busy, it has basically turned into a babysitting facility, where parents drop their kids off for a few hours after school each day cause they don't want to deal with them, so I avoid the library like a plague sadly. It's been very frustrating. ideally I would get paid enough to get my own place, but eh that won't happen, not in this economy.

my copy of Tress has finally shipped! Brandon has confirmed the other 3 secret books will ship on better time, they just were not expecting the kickstarter to do as well as it did.

I'm ok with this, looking forward to finally reading it!

Yeah I think it's great how they're pivoting with the next books. Getting a second manufacturer to help with book #2 and starting on book #3 earlier than planned.
