The Gray Ajah has chosen Climate change and environmental issues as our objective for the Great Charity Hunt.

Ideas of ways we can help:
- less car emissions - drive less, walk/cycle more,
- recycling,
- less waste in general, thinking of ways to reduce waste and making them available to other people

I realize these are pretty vague and cannot be tracked very well. We would like suggestions of ways we could help more within our communities. If the SoA team has any ideas about charities that we can also donato to, that could also help.

I was also planning on donating old clothes and shoes, since I have so many, but I don't know how to search for places to donate them to :scratch

Ways to track what you listed:
  • Walk/cycle to work 4 days instead of riding a car <--submit to tracker as "other"
  • Recycled (insert quantity here) of materials <--submit to tracker as "other"
  • Donated (insert quantity here) of (insert item here) <--submit to tracker as "donation"
You could also promote recycling within households, and if at the end of this challenge you have more Grays/friends recycling regularly instead of throwing waste into landfills, report that! Run a campaign here at TV.Net promoting recycling or reusing materials.

The tracker is for anything, big or small. :)

And @Lillian O' Neeus -- we have a call for aid! Rally your troops! :D

This is a great idea. Using reusable containers for fruit and vegetables at shops where possible can be a good way to cut down on packaging too.

There are also soft plastic drop off points here in Australia, I'm not sure whether they exist elsewhere but they are a good way of making sure that what is being recycled is being recycled properly.

Montana isn’t the easiest place to be eco-friendly. Everything’s far apart and public transport is very limited, so cars are a must-have. Eating vegetarian is expensive and the options are limited. Our recycling facilities don’t accept a lot of recyclable material, like glass. So I have to get a little creative.

Eating local: eating locally grown food is a great way to reduce emissions. It’s only possible throughout parts of the year, but even eating locally raised meat is more eco-friendly than shipped-in.

Removing invasives: we have a ton of invasive weeds around here. Knapweed, Mullen, and houndstongue are particularly egregious. I carry garbage bags when I hike and pull weeds as I go, as well as picking up trash.

Upcycling: I go to clothing swaps and second hand stores for most of my clothes, and patch & repair as much as I can instead of disposing of damaged things.

I use mesh, reusable bags for produce; wool dryer balls instead of sheets; repurpose food containers for plant pots; bring my own bags to the store, and in general try to always take the reusable/sustainable option.

I also use ecosia as my search engine, as they use their revenue to plant trees!

What I haven’t started doing yet, but is on my list, is ordering dry goods from indigenous-owned and farmed food suppliers.

That's so good Mari. Do you have the option of growing any of your produce yourself? I'm looking forward to the day I have the space and opportunity to at least have a moderately sized vege patch.
