So in another thread today this came up. If it has been discussed on the site ive missed it so my apologies.
I was wondering if anyone had any theories on what they thought the 9 rods might have encompassed? I mean what are the 9 "dominions" ? :)
They thought that the
White towers Oath Rod was one perhaps? Does that make it the Dominion of Truth? LOL
Does anyone else have any theories on what would have been a DOMINION? :)

Brand, this isn't news. It's a terrific topic for Books 1-4 though. I've asked that it be moved. :)

The one issue I have with the idea of the Oath Rod being one is that I'm sure one of the rods which pops up in the series (I think it's the one which the Shaido Wise Ones end up with) has a number on it which is higher than 9. And one of the Forsaken (Graendal?) refers to it as a Binder. Also when the Forsaken refer to the practice of taking the Oaths someone says (approximately) "Will you Bind yourself like a criminal also?"

I wondered if it were something to do with the crystal pillars but I suppose they aren't exactly rods.

The other thing which struck my mind... aren't the keys to arm/launch nuclear weapons rod-shaped? I have this vague memory of seeing something like that at some point, but it might've been a Sci-Fi show

The Nine Rods of Dominion were the regional governors of the known world. Lews Therin, as the leader of the Aes Sedai, was able to summon them. So, they were people, not objects.

Yes, the oath rod the Shaido have has 111 on it, I believe. And, yes, one of the Forsaken (I thought it was Semirhage, because of
her having been threatened with one in the Age of Legends due to her sadism
) refers to it as a binder -- small "b", because it was a common enough thing to not get a capital letter.

This is fascinating, and makes perfect sense. Where did you get the information from? :) An interview log somewhere?

According to the Library, the info is from a blog dated December 19, 2005.

linky

This thread was originated based on another thread here. It has similar information, but different enough that this thread can stand alone to discuss what dominions there might have been now that it's clear the rods were people. :)
