Today’s random thought: Since Aes Sedai can’t channel in a stedding, I wonder why Rand never seems to consider running off and staying at a stedding in the Great Hunt when he still wants to run away where he can’t hurt anyone. He seems to be fascinated with Ogier and it struck me this seems like an obvious solution to his problem.

I also wonder if there isn’t a former stedding like the one Perrin and Egwene stop at in EoTW where male channellers could be sent as an alternative to gentling they could even take a oath on the Oath rod to stay within a short distance of it to be sure they don’t leave.

Interesting thoughts...I think (regarding Rand) that his sense of responsibility (as evidenced by his continued repeating of the Malkier saying about the weight of duty) wouldn't allow him. While he could express the desire ("I want"); he couldn't bring him self to actualize it as it was to counter to his character.

Regarding the male channellers, I thought the Ogier explained that they tried to stay in the steddings but that the lure of saidar eventually pulled them out. An addiction that strong was irresistible, and if removed, might lead to simply wanting to die (as seemed the case for those that were gentled).

Thanks! I’ve not noticed that about the male Aes Sedai yet in my reread. I agree with you on Rand. At least once he accepts he is the Dragon Reborn.
