Ok, hear me out. Byar is a disgusting guy, willing to be ruled by hatred and other negative emotions. He was loyal to Bornhald and transferred that loyalty to the son "the young Bornhald" Dain when the father Geofram died.

But Byar isn't a darkfriend. And he's willing to do what is right in supporting Galad seeking retribution for Morgase.

In that chapter, just before the duel, Galad thinks:

"Byar was far from likable, and he himself seemed to like no one save young Bornhald."

So... Could this be more than loyalty, more than liking? Could Byar love Dain Bornhald? Either unrequited or do they actually have a relationship?

What do you think?

Admins, should this maybe be moved to book discussions?

It is already in Book discussions Ebona, if you have questions, please read the sticky and post there if anything is unclear. :)

As far as the topic goes... I have a hard time imagining either of those two liking someone in that way :P I don't know why.

Byar surely respected deeply the older Bornhald, and he has a strong sense to follow someone who he respects. So, I would think that that respect and duty somehow was passed onto the son. And we know Dain was more fanatic than his father, so his thinking is closer to that of Byar in my opinion.

But yes, if I put this to the side, I can see how this could mean something else and Byar actually likes Dain in a friend/lover kinda way, but I have no idea if RJ meant it that way.

The reason i was confused was became there used to be "book 1-3", "book 4-8" etc forums. And I figured they'd merged and turned into this, but then someone linked to those other forums showing they still existed... So I got super confused.
