Shawls, however, are more difficult. What if, let's say, you're Green Ajah, but your favorite color is orange, so you have a lot of orange clothes?
Because I tend to have a lot of red and black, at events I feel like I'm wearing Christmas colors all the time when I wear my shawl or other green stuff. I'm use to it now, but it's a valid point. Purple and green though I did once and I liked that so may do it again!
Scarf would be cool, maybe. Or the Flame of Tar Valon having the colour of the Ajah the person chose, being tattooed on the person, maybe on top of their right hand or something.
I really like the tattoo idea!
Pretty sure he wears a fez. Fezes are cool.
Agreed.
I could see doing it as more of a stole than a shawl -- a narrow strip of fabric in the color of your Ajah that you drape around your neck and let hang down in front, a la what you see in the vestments for some Christian ministers. That lets you put the Flame of Tar Valon on the ends (where a Christian stole might have the cross) and also prominently display the color of your Ajah, while being a bit more portable and less likely to snag on things.
. . . and then stick the Amyrlin in a shawl instead, I guess.
Yes, I can see this! Honestly, I know it's been said other places, but shawls tend to slide and aren't really always functional. I do need to get one of the large ones some of us wear, but depending on the material and size, there is a lot of holding in place or pinning in place. The longer stoles would stay in place better most definitely!
