i just finished mine but i need to get some pics put where i can share them.

i didn’t make the whole shawl, got super lucky and found one (free, at a book and accessory swap!) that was the right color and had fantastic fringe. but i finally put on a flame after having the shawl for probably at least 8 years or so, lol.

i tested the flame and then went smaller, mine is a little over 5 inches in diameter. but it worked for my shoulders and hair.

Looking forward to seeing the pics! I'm not great at sewing so was hoping to follow your footsteps and find a shawl I like where I just need to add the flame (or pay someone to do it for me ).

Mine, in progress. I made 8 pineapple lace repeats, and I think I'm doing a total of 7 roses and leaves a la Irish crochet for the center back.

For the Flame, I put the lace in the shape I wanted it on the fabric (a white Princess Leia type gauze lining from my stash) and pinned it in place, then cut around it. I'm hemming the fabric and the lace together for that, I think.

I am currently in the process of hemming on the lace. Everything is being done by hand. I pinned on the lace the way I wanted it, and am trimming it away as I go. I will probably be finishing that hem with some hem tape. The top hem is the selvage.

Then, I'll cut some fringe from the crochet cotton and I am going to use the brown beads I had originally intended for my Brown shawl fringe on this fringe. My first Sedai shawl had white in the fringe so I thought it would be a fun nod to that.

I am 99% certain that with the way the fabric is draping, I need to cut a better neckline with some darts to get it to behave when I wear it.

wow, @Cattrin al'Modrah that is just gorgeous with the lace and the fabric and all!

I ended up putting my flame on by hand and it wasn't my best decision but given a variety of factors I went with it anyway, and am happy with the result anyway. I'd like to knit or sew another shawl one day that isn't a solid red but that might take me another eight years or so, so I'm glad to have this one.

anyway, @Veluene al'Myr here are my shawl pics. my hair is all up here and honestly if it were all down it would still cover the flame, but I most often wear it in a messy twist with the ends out, and I wanted to keep the flame low enough for that. I have some hair clips that double as scarf/shawl clips and I usually wear one to keep the shawl mostly in place, it's thin/slippery/folded in half.

Wow, That is so beautiful!!!!!!
What a coincidence though.. I was just admiring the details of the red ajah pennants(? in the logo) thinking they would make a beautiful red shawl..

I know it obviously isn’t a rule as such, but is it sort of an unwritten rule, that shawls are sewn or does anyone knit or crochet? Not that I don’t like the sewn ones, I adore them, but I freeze easily and can’t really sew that well on a machine.

I do not knit or crochet myself but people do totally do that for shawls! I own to crocheted ones and I posted a picture of one of them in my shawl sew along, I'd have to go back and look at which section though.

I would love to see yours also yenie, I have a couple of ideas (one of them to both knit and crochet), but don’t know if they are any good. would be great to see how others did it I obviously would just make the shawl, and embroider any company or ajah logo when/if that would ever happen

Spoiler: My first shawl

So this was the first time I ever made a shawl, I had not looked at anyone else's shawls really at the time so I made it with very little outside inspiration or influence, which in some ways is kinda cool. It was made in 2004 and it has a Green twin shawl made at the same time that was sent to Katina here on the site (She is Yellow these days though ) Kati's shawl has some Red threads in the fringes, and mine has some Green threads in the fringes. The fabric has a subtle vine pattern and the flame is solid white with red and gold thread around it. I hadn't thought of the fact you could buy pre-made fringes so the fringes in it are all just unravelled red fabric.

So this shawl was gifted to me from Ehlana, a Gray on the site. She was my first mentee back in the days, and she brought it with her to Sweden when she visited. I might be wrong that it was crocheted, I think it was? But I am kinda bad at judging that so if I was wrong, I apologise, not intended!

So this one was kinda random. My parents were moving and my mum was about to throw out this super soft black velvet with little gold dots on it. There wasn't much of it, just a square and my mind was... that is just the right amount for a shawl! So, I ended up making it into one, as one does.. The flame is made from some leftover silk that was from a Lanfear halloween outfit

This shawl was made for Fluffy Sedai of the Red Ajah, my cat. She attended a Europarty and met many members over the years! Sadly she is no longer with me, but her shawl has been inherited by the current cats.

The first red shawl I did the zig zag sewing on one edge of a piece of red fabric, then I sewed that into the edge of the shawl. When it was all attached I removed all the sideways threads and the only things left was the ones still attached to the shawl!
