This is one of my favorite threads...reading about each of your awesome work and compassion. It's sometimes hard / awkward to publicly disclose and share the generosity that we engage in our personal lives. But I thank and appreciate each of you for taking the time to do so; it inspires me and makes my days better. Gassho.

Seconding what @Alexr al'Petros posted. It is great to know what members of this community hold near and dear :) More people involved also means more friendships forged through common goals.

Very cool! I am an OHTA member and trail maintenance volunteer here in Arkansas!
Nice! I'm a member of OTA here in Missouri doing the same thing! And the Ozark Trail connects to the Ozark Highlands somewhere, doesn't it?

Not yet but it will someday so I'm told, by Norfork Lake.
Right now I do the section from Morgan Fields (West Cobb) up to Hare Mountain, come check it out some time. Fun little hike 2 miles up to the top, decent campsite up there. I was helping with a few sections further east this winter as well. One had some beautiful little waterfalls, fun stuff!

I volunteer at my local wild life park! It is so fun, and they rely a lot on volunteers to help with events and day to day education work. I get to carry around bio-facts and teach people about the animals and how we interact with and affect the world around us.

I’m also working an a community project through my high school that I am super excited about!

This is really cool. Serving others is perhaps the most satisfying joy. What is your HS community project? Perhaps, I can get my Scout troop to do something similar. Great ideas are wonderful shared.

I am working with my principal to set up a charity art auction featuring high school artists and environmental activism. It’s not much more then a concept yet, but I have some meetings set up later this month, and I am really looking forward to it.

Yeah, put this is a really cool concept and should be able to draw in a number of the students to support. It can be run over a period of time with rotating items. Perhaps it can also be done in conjunction with a well-attended school event (dance, sporting event, etc) so that visitors can also bid on auction items.

This is such a good idea! I’ve been worried about attendance, and I could totally see it being done during the intermission of our yearly musical, which typically has crazy high ticket sales.

Thank you so much for the ideas!

Of course. We all make each other better. You could probably set up the silent auction out front before and have people do bidding before and during intermission and then pick up / pay at the end of the production. Woot, woot!

Keep making the world a better place, one action at a time!

Well, besides my adventures in high velocity declaration which you can find in other channels. This weekend was also the State Meeting for the Utah CVMA (combat veterans motorcycle association). This non-profit organization supports veterans and provides a place where some of us can work through our "demons." I'd like to share a few pictures from our meeting. It seems they elected me to be the UT State Representative for 3 more years.

The last photo is our annual roll call of those members of UT CVMA that now belong to our Alpha & Omega chapter (deceased). Gone; but never forgotten.

I know that many of you are also Servants of All throughout your communities as well. I hope that you might consider continuing sharing your stories from time to time. It is hard to speak of one's self; but your story is so important to encouraging the rest of us to continuing our service. In cheerful service, we remain, semper fidelis.

Tomorrow, I will be donating 10 crocheted blankets for the cats of my local SPCA to have something soft to rest on before they find new homes. I will be making more, though. :)

Spent my weekend volunteering with the Cub Scouts at their fall campout, teaching them how to build a campfire, how to set up their own tents (that was hilarious to watch), and demonstrating why Doritos make good kindling!

I love my Cubbies @Veriendha al'Riaha ; but these days I'm running with the Venturing Crew. We are doing our final Fall campout next weekend. That is awesome that you are involved with and supporting the Scouts. It provides such great experiences for our rising generation! Thank you for your service.

How do you serve when you're not donating to a campaign? Volunteering? Small helpful everyday acts? Starting something new?

What are you doing that doesn't require specific gifts or money? How do you work towards the true meaning of Aes Sedai? I would love to hear your ideas!
I donate platelets on a regular schedule, usually with appointments scheduled months in advance.

For those who are unaware, platelets are the things that cause your blood to clot. Collecting them is time consuming, and they only have a shelf life of about 5-7 days. And people need them all the time. Every time I donate, I help three people, usually cancer patients in my region. That's three people every two weeks, 24 times a year.

Donating is like a blood donation, but it's more involved and takes about 2 hours, not counting the intake and recovery time. I can go into more detail. If you have or can give blood, you can probably donate platelets. While donating you relax in the best beds in the room, watch a movie and chill.

Wow @Jorell al'Racha that is really cool. I especially like how you have regularized it as part of your routine. That sort of consistent, patient, persistent service is so very valuable for our communities. I had never really considered how important this might be; I really appreciate the reminder. Thank you for your service.

Ooo, I'm trying to find a Crew here when I live, but I think they're all Boy Scout troops. That's fine too, but I think the Venturing Crew does more outdoors. I'd love to tag a long and help out like you are!

Do you know if you can donate platelets if you have low iron or blood pressure? I'd love to be able to do that, but I'm afraid my body won't let me 🤷‍♀️

You'll have to check with your local donor center. I don't recall exactly the limits, but if you can donate whole blood, you can usually donate platelets.

My sister had Thrombocytopenia. Her immune system was attacking her platelets, from what I remember (it was the early 90's).

She had to be rushed to the hospital to get platelets a few times, because she was internally bleeding. It was terrifying.

People like you are what saved her. Thank you so much.
