Season 3 so far (SPOILERS for all released episodes!)

Some excellent called shots here, Kranerian, beat me to the punch with a few of them.

I'll take the outside odds that there's another 'Superfriends' moment like we had with Falme, if only to mourn Moiraine, brought about by some Gate shenanigans between Tanchico, Rhuidean, and Sammodean's attempted escape.
Probably in Telaranriod

Well, I called it with Melindhra, but they still managed to surprise me :)

Other than that, this episode felt... rushed, as I feared it would be. They tried to conclude all the plotlines, and instead only really managed to close one of them.
I feel the coup could have waited until the next season, though I understand that they wanted to have the mirror of Siuan and Moiraine being in trouble at the same time.

The scene with Nynaeve in the water was the only part I loved about this episode. I hated how she tried to appeal to Liandrin's good side, I'm more than OK with hating her with a passion, thank you very much :braid: And of course no duel with Nyn and Mog. I was hoping for Nynaeve to pop up whilst Moggy and Liandrin was talking, but no :(

Rand in Alcair Dal was... predictable. They could have taken more time with that, him giving more details. And I hated that he called them oathbreakers! That's not the way to win their support Rand, no matter how it's true.

The duel with Moiraine and Lanfear also felt unsatisfactory. Especially since it lead to pretty much nothing. As in, neither of them died, though Lanfear was wounded for the first time in thousands of years... I knew they wouldn't kill of Moiraine, with how much they've made her a main character. But maybe she will have another confrontation next season, though I almost hope not.

As for Mat... Him accidentally going through the arches was a nice twist, and I like that we got the scene with the Eelfinn. But what about the result? Did he now lose the memories? How will that help with getting Mat to who he is supposed to be?
And with Min getting so close to him, how will she change her affection to Rand later? Or will they drop that part?

And spending time on Elayne and Thom... I get that it's important information, but with so much else to resolve, did we really need that? I liked the balefire thing though.

And I suppose Rand won't have a teacher now... Unless the body Lanfear showed was fake, and in reality she blocked him from the DO, like Rand did to Asmodean in the books.
And they just went and killed off Siuan. I suppose it makes sense, but it's still sad, I liked the later books part of Siuan, she became quite the skilled manipulator from the Shadows and solidly supported Egwene...
I liked how they visualised the stilling though, with spears going through her. Much like the actual spears going through Alanna last episode.

live reaction tl;dr my jaw is dropped 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞

please don't die moiraine can't this be the One of the thousand thousand turns of the wheel where you and rand both liveeeee
[also as someone who hasn't finished the book series..... i'd be kinda surprised if rand survives tarmon gai'don. but this rather suggests he might]

rand harvesting the squash 😭 i had hoped for a happy version of that scene *but of course not duty is heavier than a mountain*

moiraine saying "gonna" gets me

mat's veil 🤣

oh i do NOT like this with lanfear moiraine & melhindra [who is connected to lan]

"is he worthy of your strength" love the much more empowering & three-dimensional narrative for egwene & the other women 🔥

sucks that moghedien kills sammael when moiraine had him to help rand :' (

"i think it is today" moiraine's gonna die in that straw hat 😭

i like the jungly ruin of the panarch's palace -- oh my god the cat is *eating* that corpse

i like min and mat's banter 😂

oooohhhh rahvin EXPOSED

balefiree 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 scariest fictional weapon to me

OH SHIT WE ARE DOING THE FAE MAT ARC

i do feel like the music in this season comes across a little more like typical fantasy series/cinematic music and has a bit less of the unique sound of the first seasons :/

HOLY SHIT ELAYNE WITH THE BALEFIRE :ooooooooo

love the aelfinn scene <3 prediction: yellow sister will wake up, channel at mat and it won't affect him

really nynaeve you just let her take ittt 😭
but HELL YEAH that drowning scene [and presumably nynaeve breaking her block?] anyway i love that elnore keeps showing up 🥲

whoaaa melhindra 💔💔💔💔💔 that was beautiful & unexpected. i was like *you're gonna get rid of lan & moiraine both??? surely not surely not*

not moiraine & rand having this beautiful heart to heart, shes such a goner 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

arghhhh siuan, just like that 💔💔💔💔 i hate it
i hope at least some of the Tower follows her/not Elaida. also i need all the further seasons so Elaida can meet a nasty end. [what was this price exacted by the aelfinn for her to get the throne??]

WHAT WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT W HH AAA TTTTT
that entire last sequence 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
i cried and i rarely cry at fiction i just
AND WHAT HAPPENED
and we don't even know if there is a season fourrrrr
moiRAINE??? siuan?????
moiraine?
dudeeeee im stunned. im so stunned. like to me this is just masterful what they're doing with the characters and the arcs [sure i have a few bones to pick but mostly in season 1]
but siuan 😭 that scene was SO powerful of her facing down elaida. and if she's the major death and moiraine can live another season tbh im not complaining ------
even tho it seems like moiraine made peace with rand and kind of she's done, except for presumably taking out lanfear with her. so.
omg when lanfear was just choking her brutally i was like not like this. without even hurting lanfear back, without any cool weavings, just so humiliating and ugly way to die. and then lan <333333 i was rly expecting some more stabby stabby out of him at the end too. if moiraine dies and lanfear escapes i will be Quite Put Out [although lanfear is really interesting re: Rand and the other Forsaken, so i can see her sticking around longer]

I may have to revisit this when I've cooled off but I have MANY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS.

Elayne using that ter'angreal was very cool. I wonder if they are setting up the idea that she can understand them better than most? We saw it being used badly and then she just went two-handed grip and Balefired the frog out of that Black Alaj lady. That was super cool.

Moiraine talking to Sammael? Ugh, that dress. Her hair. It made me feel things.

We also saw the hat again!

I was like... are we setting Sammael up as the Asmodean? But we didn't and that was also cool. Moggy is so creepy and her actress does a fantastic job of acting the part.

To be fair there was a lot of great acting elsewhere too. Siuan's speech at the end? I have to admit, I am not a huge Siuan fan in the books, but in the show her and Moiraine? I'm like YES YOU LOVE EACH OTHER AND I LOVE YOUR LOVE so that whole thing made me feel so many things. UGH. I was Leane going "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" in her fabulous coat.

Rosamund Pike pulled triple duty as Moiraine fighting Lanfear and feeling Siuan die (were they bonded or something?!?) - such incredible acting, so raw and sad and I felt sad for her. I frogging love Rosamund Pike. Then her badass moment with the sword! And beating Lanfear off! I wonder what the implications are based on what she saw in Rhuidean? I was expecting them to take each other out as the final scene or something but hey, if we get more Moiraine time then I'm cool with that not happening. In fact I'm happy if they just have Moiraine stick around until the end. I don't think they will, but I would like it.

Speaking of, one of my favourite things from the books is the world of the 'Finn so seeing that come to life? Elaida coming through them made me scream a scrump, and then Matt's scene was also very cool. Not really how I saw it in my head but that whole world really fascinates me so seeing it on the screen made me so happy.

What else? Ummm there's plenty of other stuff. I am going to sleep on it, maybe comment more later as I've not touched on Rand or Egwene etc, but at the same time I am going to manifest that we have another season so I get to see Semirhage. Pleeeeeeease let me have a Semirhage. Though I did read some online article ranking the 13 Forsaken in terms of power and she was, like, 9th? Really? No. Put her in top 3, she demands a podium spot. I want her to be as horrific as the Companion tells us she is. I want Lanfear to be like "awh shit she's angry" and be a bit afraid of her too.

Anyway. Love the Chosen, love their acting, love the Shadow- erm, the depth of the characters we have seen who are not as black and white as we are first led to believe...

Definitely in the Light,

Murdock

My thoughts in no particular order:

- I like how they've now fixed Mat to where he should be. In the books he had holes put in his memory that were later filled with other peoples'. This time he got the extra memories which were fucking with him, and the Finn helpfully "fixed" that by removing some of his own. Bonus points if they further traumatize him by having him forget his family.
- Disappointed that we didn't get the Nyn/Moggy duel but as long as we get it later it'll be fine. I continue to adore how fucking creepy and unhinged Moggy is. Looking forward to her and Liandrin working "together."
- Balefire was cool.
- There was a multipointed star inscribed in a circle, I think that's our legally-distinct Mercedes logo.
- Nynaeve could have just pushed herself up out of the water. But that wouldn't have been extra enough for her.
- I correctly called that Siuan and Leane wouldn't both survive. Having two for that arc is redundant. Siuan just got a head start on her fate.
- They sure did waste Sammael didn't they. Unless that corpse was a decoy and Moggy kidnapped him to experiment further?
- I don't really like that both Moiraine and Lanfear are both plausibly still alive and healable. That kinda fucks with things if they walk away from this. Maybe a rematch soon though?

I was dancing up and down when I saw that Balefire wand, and when they used it, the effect was SO COOL! I loved how they depict it!

As for Nyneave - I loved the Jewish wink here. That had such a Moses vibe to it, splitting the sea like that! It was so cool! And just for Passover, too!

So, showing how Balefire erases something from the pattern before it happened was REALLY cool, but I wish that it had been depicted as more of a bar of white light rather than like a purple-ish laser.
I liked the purple as a distinctive color we don't see from other weaves. As a visual choice, white is harder to make work on screen.

I'm with a few other people that being a decoy corpse, or possibly even just that moghy's best effort to kill Sammael only amounted to (thorough) dismemberment.

Also, the play by the Reds to get Suian's supporters out of the Tower I liked even though it was such an obvious trap for her to fall for: it shows her focus is rightly on the Dragon, not the Amyrlin seat, which is all Elaida cares about.

ummmmmm :arch::arch::arch::arch: *sticks thumb through first two fingers of fist*

sameee Siuan's speech was SO powerful and intercut with Moiraine???? my heart and soul ❤️‍🔥 i was through tears talking at the screen like "COME ON moiraine at least hurt her back take her with you" i was expecting siuan to remain 'bloody but unbowed' sooo i was just enjoying her speaking truth to power

It hurts to lose Siuan, especially after that speech & her defiance even stilled (which would be a sad enough fate -- but see we've already gotten a bit of that arc with Moiraine, and I suppose the rest of Siuan's arc too, they might give to Moiraine. [im on Lord of Chaos so i only know up to there])

Which for me... I was coming into it fully expecting Moiraine to die or even both of them to die. The people who are upset about this twist.. is the upset that they killed off Siuan instead of Moiraine, or that they broke the fishwives apart? I guess they *could* have somehow let both live to avoid burying the gays, and I mean I would've been there for that, but like, I feel like plot-wise at least one was gonna go.

And given that, I am extremely biased, because Moiraine is my #1 character and I just like to see her beautiful and powerful self no matter what 😂 so it is kind of a dream come true that she miraculously gets to stick around. Even if heartbroken, which is going to be.... unfair as usual in Moiraine's hard hard life, and hard to watch. But I mean if Moiraine had died as in canon, Siuan would've been heartbroken! and stilled!!! the Wheel is cruel

But the way Siuan said "I would die to protect Moiraine" and then her death gives Moiraine the strength to save her own life 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

yes hehe i noticed that star 😂

ohh right there's still Leane too! gods everyone is gonna be so sad next season. because there will be a next season --

See that was my one weird feeling about the Moiraine/Lanfear showdown. It was the most setpiece it could possibly be. I mean how can you top that? they were perfectly set up to each take the other down with her. So like... where do we go from there.

Yeah, I'm with you and Kranerian. Looks like Mercedes wouldn't shell out for the product placement, which, 'boooo'.

I really liked Suian's speech, especially because in the books all of that happens more or less 'off-screen', and most of my questions are around what this means for the Forsaken as our antagonists. Definitely changes up my perceptions for what Season 4 will be.

I really liked Rand & Moiraine's candor in having the talk they did right before the Al Cair Dal reveal.

I just want to express how impressed I am that the eelfinn was done with practical effects and not cgi. I'd been wondering for the longest time how they (and the aelfinn) will look in the show because they're so strange

@Brycc al'Thyran shared a whole video about that, the actor explaining it's the hardest work they've ever done, even having done stilt work.

Forgive me if this has already been addressed above, new to this forum. Is it just me or have they completely done away with the oath about not using the one power as a weapon? I've seen at least two examples of people being killed with the one power who were incapacitated and not threatening anyone... and the character doing it is not Black Ajah in the books, nor have they been revealed to be in the show. (Even if they were everyone around them would've freaked out when they broke the oath.)

Re: Lanfear v Moirraine: I started to suspect that they were going to change that whole thing when we saw Moirraine's visions in Rhuidean and it was all stabbing and no red doors. I was expecting that they would cut the whole Aelfinn and Eelfinn out altogether... so I was stoked when Mat actually went there. But then they ended up changing it after all so maybe we won't get the trip to the Tower of Ghenjei?
