Season 3 so far (SPOILERS for all released episodes!)

A couple of things I noticed in my rewatches...

When Egwene told Rand that Lanfear had been hurting her, Rand didn't second-guess her, not for a second. This made me think he probably is trying to drive her away to keep her safe, even if he isn't actually playing Lanfear (not successfully at least). I guess I just wanted to believe the best in Egwene, despite the initial finger pointing. Neither of them worded their arguments very well, which tracks with the fact that they are still a young (ex) couple. Credit to the writers for giving Rand and Egwene some emotionally driven dialogue to fit the situation they were in.

To end on a lighter note, I forgot to mention how I cracked up at Mat shouting "That's my friend!" after Elayne finished singing

This latest episode was really good, but so different from the books, I don't know what to think about it.
If I separate it from the books - it was fantastic. A really good production, the whole episode dedicated to the Two Rivers really did justice with it. but I'm not sure how to feel about some of those changes, particularly the killing of Valda and Loial. I did NOT see that coming.

This is the first time since Uno's death that changes from the books really bothered me. Loial is one of my favorite characters, and him going out this early, even in a noble way, just makes me angry right now. I'll eventually find myself weeping for the big lug though, and at a super inconvenient time no doubt. Still no development of Perrin's wolfbrother powers, and Lord Luc did literally nothing this episode but sit there, so no Slayer either I guess. Nice to see karma kick Valda right in the nuts though, and I really liked the vfx on that channeled hailstorm.

I'm quite upset about the Loial development but overall I think it was a fabulous episode. I wish though I could take back the last 10 minutes or so. It was stellar right until the end....

Honestly, I still ope we'll see him exist from another gate. We saw more bridges below, so hopefully he survived.

I was informed this morning that this scene was on the "DO NOT REVEAL" list from those given early access to the entire season. I believe it's a perma-death

You think they are swapping this with the what we expect based on what happens in the books?
since one actor is the marquee name?

Nononononono no. NO. They can NOT kill Loial. I will no stand for it. Before that I was already in a right state over Loial, they way they made his face decay by the longing or whatever was just unnecessary. But this? No sir. Somebody needs to get my permission for doing this and I am not giving it. Period.

(Good episode by the way. Really good battles and stuff. But NO)

Favourite parts: Valda being set on fire by the Shining twins, Daise the Wisdom quitting drinking and putting up that cool shield, Maksim taking off his shirt, Faile being pretty badass. Perrin murdering MANY things. What else... Oh Alanna channelling was cool. I love power theory but I'm pretty sure (super niche reference alert time now) that ice is briefly described as being Fire and Water combined. I didn't see that in her weaves. I'm being overly pinickity... overall it was very cool. Literally cool. Ha ha.

Less favourite parts: Aram saving a baby with a desperate sword was a bit... Eh. I'd rather it was more of a deliberate choice than that. Also, MORE WOLVES PLEASE WHERE ARE THE WOLVES?

Overall I enjoyed the episode and the deviation from the books intrigues me! I'm looking forward to seeing how this is resolved but I'm guessing it won't happen this season.

Honestly... I'm not a huge Loial fan but his ending made me feel things. Weirdly this makes me like him more. I don't think he'll be back but I'm glad he had his shiny moment with the Aiel.

I really liked that we got to see Perrin fighting with both an axe and a hammer. He throws the Hammer at Fain before tackling him and holding him down with the axe. It was a small thing that I appreciated seeing.

The Ways are a humongous place and we knows this from the books. I've seen it theorized they're going to pull a Gandalf situation where he does come back since it's possible he could have landed on another lower platform

I actually liked the way it ended. Perrin in the books also struggled with all the violence and wished the Way of the Leaf would be possible. He knew that the only way to end the battle was to get the Trollocs to be called off. He could then hold back on his hate for the man who brought them here and killed all his family in order to save everyone else. I liked that better than the now over used "massive Power surge killed every bad guy." And by going with the Whitecloaks he hoped to stop them from continuing to battle as well.
And I hope that by doing it this way we can end the "Whitecloaks hunt Perrin" early on instead of going on and on about it for 8 more books or so... But I also fear that we won't see what happens to him this season, since we have so much else to finish, like the Aiel Waste, the Tower and Tanchico.

Loial :cry2:Your name sings in our ears Loial, son of Arent, son of Haran :cry2:I did like the scene overall though, how he first tried to destroy it carefully, then saw the army coming and just knew what he needed to do. Maybe that's why they showed his literal deterioration from the Longing. I honestly hadn't noticed that until this episode when I just thought "has his nose always been like that?"

I liked Aram as well, it was a nice reference to how it happened in the flashbacks in Rhuidean.

Watching the new episode currently, but I have a theory that stems from last weeks episode. I think Mat is going to find the red door in the Tanchico museum, possibly at the same time someone (probably Rand or Moiraine) finds the matching one in Rhuidean

This last episode was amazing. I’ve accepted this is a wholly different turning of the wheel, so I’m all good there.

I do hope Loial is not dead, though.

I'm positive they left it ambiguous for show-running reasons. They made such a point of how Loial couldn't destroy the Waygate itself, and even if he's falling, he might still be able to get through it (just not to the gate on the other side originally). Unfortunately, I do think that means Loial won't come back unless for practical reasons they can afford the money and the actor has the time.

I couldn't help but notice Loial fought with a warhammer also . . . I feel like what we should look for is if that comes back up with Perrin's arc.

Ohh, maybe they'll have Loial in the dream, so they don't have to make the issue of a wolf talking...

So, any predictions for the finale? Mine are:

We get the battle in Tanchico, hopefully in the palace/museum but maybe just at the black ajah HQ. Mat finds and goes through a doorway and has a bad time.

We get the tower coup, and I don't think both Siuan and Leane will survive. One or possibly even both will die.

We get Alcair Dal, with the breaking of the Aiel. Moiraine and Lanfear have their battle. Probably will end with both seeming rather more definitively dead than just tumbling through a doorway. Sammael becomes the new Asmodean.

And then my bonus wild prediction: We get the Eye of the World prologue as a flashback for the cold open. Remind everyone what Lews Therin looks and sounds like. And then by the end of the episode he pops back up in Rand's head.

Some excellent called shots here, Kranerian, beat me to the punch with a few of them.

I'll take the outside odds that there's another 'Superfriends' moment like we had with Falme, if only to mourn Moiraine, brought about by some Gate shenanigans between Tanchico, Rhuidean, and Sammodean's attempted escape.
