Season 3 so far (SPOILERS for all released episodes!)

Faile and her fighting really intrigued me too. She looks nothing like how I pictured her from reading, but I really like what they've done with her character and I never thought I'd say that about Faile.

It’s funny because she’s almost exactly what I pictured.

And my thoughts too! I also thought I’d never say I like what they’ve done to Faile, but I think I’m going to be a show Faile fan. As opposed to book Faile. :grumble:

The show has definitely improved the likability of a lot of characters. I don't know what I'm going to do if I end up liking Gawyn. IF.

Light help us. The Princes are definitely going to be ones to watch coming out of this season.

I was reflecting on it last night during episode recording, but I don't think we see either of them so much as interact with Elaida.

So, thoughts about this episode:
:sick2: Moghedien is so icky and creepy and it's perfect. Her scene with Elayne and Nynaeve was perfect. But eew :sick2:
Also, yay, Padan Fain is back :indifferent: Because that's definitely what they needed in the Two Rivers, more crazy people...
At least Alanna is back up again :D

I liked the scene with Faile and Perrin, but I'm surprised they changed Faile's backstory. Maybe it was to make it easier to explain why she ran away? I suspect this means Bashere won't be joining Rand later then... Or maybe he will, as a penance for his wife being a Darkfriend and killing his son?

"The Hills of Tanchico" is a great song, the scene worked well as well :D Is it too much to hope for a repeat of "Weep for Manetheren" in the Two Rivers later?

Also, poor Rand :cry2: I'm glad they took this scene with the girl in despite not going to Tear, it is important to his development. And this one is even more his fault than the attack of the Stone.
And now he's also lost Egwene :( It was bound to happen, but it didn't make it any easier to watch. The scene wasn't as emotional as I thought it would be, but Joshua struggled a bit to show emotions in the scene. Then again, that isn't necessarily wrong for the character...

Definitely not a fan of how the healed Alanna but that's my only complaint.

Loved the Hills of Tanchico! The actress recorded the full song and they played it during the end credits, but if your Prime is like mine it skips the credits to jump right into next week preview. Full song on youtube!

I'm betting that like we saw the changes with Egwene, both in costume and demeanor from Seasons 1&2 to Season 3, Gawyn will be getting a similar treatment. There are events in store for him, after all.

Ok so... Not really a fan of Rand basically gaslighting Egwene when she confronted him about banging a Forsaken. I feel like she has legitimate complaints about that and instead of explaining himself Rand is just like... "I'M NEVER ENOUGH FOR YOU". Gurl. Maybe gaslighting is not the right word but he's changing the subject and turning it around so Egwene is the problem instead of owning his actions? Not a good look Mr Dragon.

Not hugely fond of how Alanna was Healed. I'm all for liberties on things in the show Vs the books but Healing like that from The Shining twins was a bit much.

I did enjoy most of the episode though. All the Tanchico stuff? Awesome. The song? Great. Moggy being gross with their food? Perfect.

I thought the talks between Perrin and Faile were sweet. Not a fan of the dead wife as a plot vehicle that hasn't really had any payoff, and I think Perrin needs to enunciate better, but I like them together. Him making fun of Faile and showing the picture of Matt was a light-hearted side to him that I want to see more of! I think I would have had their vulnerable discussion, then the kiss, then the making fun and her being outraged but not super mad, just "omg!" Levels of mad.

I think my favourite part of the episode was probably Aviendha being a badass channeller with those fire swords? That was fun! But I did also quite like Elayne being mostly good at sleuthing with the locals. I'm glad we spent time with those guys and I'm also glad Thom is back.

Avi would NEVER! Those are fire spears, sir!

Also, I share your critique about the Alanna healing. It was my only real complaint from this episode. In general I think they've done a poor job showing healing and what it can and cannot do.

I wonder if that's a workaround with the girls and Alanna being . . . linked? Either way it probably wasn't the first time.

But I totally am with you regarding Rand, just like . . . where's the remorse?! You saw her create the BORE!!!

I predicted in chat for one of the youtube content creators that Bode would be the one to heal Alanna. Happy to be at least partially right about that. Rand and Egwene breaking up hit me hard in the books, now in the show there's more of a driving force behind it. And right afterward we get a version of ANOTHER emotional scene from TSR, except the dead child now has a name, and a connection to Rhuarc and Rand. Oof. But then again, my most audibly joyful reaction of this episode came when Aviendha emerged with the channeled flame spears.

My second most audibly joyful reaction (though I was actually just as happy to see this) was to The Hills of Tanchico. It is my new jam, and I can't say enough good things about Ceara as Elayne this season

Back to Rand and Egwene for just a bit...

I was thinking, "We seriously getting Darth Rand this early?"

Don't quite agree with the change about Faile's mom at face value, but maybe in the show Davram Bashere has since remarried and Deira is now Faile's stepmom? We shall see, I suppose. It was great to see Thom and Padan Fain again, but where is Lord Luc? It would be weird to introduce him and not have him be Slayer.

Moggy was hilariously creepy, and the scene where she uses Compulsion on Nynaeve and Elayne was very well done.

Am I crazy? Am I the only one who remembers Moiraine insisting that Rand try to play Lanfear? Did I dream that up? I didn't rewatch, and now I'm kicking myself for it. Assuming I'm not misremembering...

I think Rand has two things happening there when he says, "You have no idea..."

1. He doesn't want Egwene around him. Moiraine just told him that 'sometimes' he goes mad and kills her. He loves her, so he wants her safe. Both the book and the show versions of Rand make me think they'd suffer to see Egwene safe and happy. I base this off the end scene of season one where Rand gives up a chance for a happy fake life with fake Egwene for his reality.
2. He knows he can't even say, "I don't love that crazy b1tch! Do you KNOW how tough it is to go to sleep every night and find her there waiting to get it on with me?!?" without taking some risk that Lanfear finds out. So... he lets Egwene think this is about how he feels (or doesn't feel) about her. The truth is, he's sacrificing his happiness to do what he must, and I think we'll hear him say as much at some point.

My only hesitations from thinking those two points are 100% correct:
1. Rand was annoyed with Egwene not putting their relationship first, even in season one (ie, when she left him to go be a wisdom) but like I said above, I think he worked through that and I'd hate to see his progress as a character wasn't legit.
2. Rand is VERY MUCH the sort of person who would try to save a woman from their own past choices (ie, he wants to save Lanfear).

The question is, can the first set of questions be accurate while the second is also factual? I think so.

I think you summed it up quite nicely Miya. I had forgotten that Moiraine encouraged him to meet Lanfear in the dream, but I also think that at this point he's not able to stop.
You're also right about him pushing Egwene away for her own safety. Plus he knows from Min that the two of them are not going to end up together. (Or at least I think Min said something of the sort when they met that one time in the first season. I haven't actually watched them again either...)
