WARNING! Lots of spoilers........

I finally finished Path of Daggers a few days ago, and I have to say I really enjoyed it! It seemed like the few books before Path of Daggers were much slower - it seemed like nothing happened until ~80% through the book, at which point I couldn't put the book down until it ended. In Path of Daggers, though, I felt like interesting stuff was happening throughout the entire book. By the time I was about halfway through:
  • they had used the Bowl of Winds
  • Egwene had manipulated the Salidar Hall to declare war on Elaida and thus give Egwene more power
  • the Seanchan had attacked a bunch of people, including chasing Elayne/Nynaeve/Birgette/Aviendha while Elayne tried to unweave the gateway 'causing a crazy explosion
  • Perrin had saved Maghdin and company (not realizing she's Morgase)
  • Rand had decided to attack the Seanchan

I was a bit concerned about this part of the series since I kept hearing that it was a pretty slow group of books, but at least for book 8, I found it much more consistently interesting than the previous few.

Now, onward to Winter's Heart! :horsey

I think my gripe with this book was there was no Mat. That and it waste last book out when I started to read the series so I had to wait for Winters Heart a couple of years.

I didn't think it really slowed down until Crossroads of Twilight.

In my first read through, this is where I stopped. I hated that it got all political and there wasn't any action.

I finished this book a couple of weeks ago (now on Book 10). Just before halfway through this book picked up a lot for me, as finally the Bowl of Winds was used and the hunt for the Black Ajah in the White Tower was getting interesting. Hopefully you enjoy Book 9 and let us know what you thought!

I've now finished Winter's Heart,

And MAN was that slow paced. I enjoyed it fine, since a lot of it was learning about the Seanchan which was cool, but, like, nothing happened until the end. Like, the whole Far Madding stuff really didn't seem to accomplish much plot-wise at all.....It got Rand to like Alanna a bit more, it got Cadsuane to get to help Rand a bit more, and a few Asha'man died. But it really barely advanced the plot. It was only in the final few chapters that what I would call the 'plot' of the book happened: Mat sneaking people out of Ebou Dar. Rand cleansing saidin. And really, 'Mat sneaking people out of Ebou Dar' was really just him organizing the whole thing - he didn't actually sneak out past the palace in that book!!!

The Aes Sedia army with Egwene didn't move, like, at all. Perrin trying to save Faile barely advanced. (Faile just talked to some people) I guess we had some neat stuff in the Tower (the group there finding some Black Ajah and rebels and making them swear oaths to them), but wow that was a slow book XD

So yeah, I enjoyed it alright and read it fairly quickly, but that was more just reading a chapter or two every night, not feeling a great compulsion to keep reading.

Aeonia, I totally agree with you
Far Madding could have been so much shorter, and there is a reason that the Perrin/Faile/Shaido plotline is called the plotline of Doom :look:
