As you know The Wheel Time Companion is coming next month. You can find excerpt on Tor web site

And amazon(http://www.amazon.com/The-Wheel-Time-Companion-Bestselling) allows browse parts of the book, but also you can search it.

And you can search even in parts where you cannot browse. So I searched a bit on the strength level of channeler since one of the things I've been most curious was the one power strength ranking.

So men and women are measured in different ways so you probably cannot compare them. Quoting a small excerpt from the book
The strongest women would be 1(+12), with a life expectancy of around 800 years
A man of the same rough level, which was 7, would have a life expectancy of 720 years
Obviously out of context I don't know what that 7 is. But for women you have for example 11(2) which means that the strength of someone is 11 by the new ranking and 2 by the old (what's new and old - no idea). But basically the smaller the number the more powerful the channeler is (that is both for man and women).

Follows the ranking of some of the characters.

The main characters

Nynaeve 4(+9) with potential 3(+10)
Cadsuane 5(+8)
Elayne 8(+5)
Egwene 8(+5)
Aviendha 11(+2)

Amys 13(1)
Sorilea 57(35)

Moiraine 13(1) after imprisonment by Eelfinn: 66(54)
Siuan 13(1) after being stilled and Healed: 35(23).
Leane Sharif 14(2) after being stilled and healed: 36(24)
Elaida 13(1)
Verin ????? (couldn't find)

Rand ++1
Logain ++2
Mazrim Taim ??? ++2

The forsaken

Ishamael ++1
Rahvin ++1
Aginor ++2
Sammael ++2
Demandred ++2
Balthamel ++3
Asmodean ++3
Be'lal ++4
Lanfear 1(+12) as Cyndane 2(+11)
Semirhage 1(+12)
Mesaana 2(+11)

Moghedien 4(+9)

Some other

I hope this gets explained better in the book, because to me this is just numbers :look: Especially with the new ranking and numbers in parentheses...

I ignore the number in parentheses.

What those mean? There are a few surprising things for me.
Cadsuane (5) is stronger than Elayne/Egwene (8) by far, and almost as strong as Nyneave(4).
Aviendha (11) is weaker than Elayne/Egwene though I remember from the books that their potentials was the same. I am assuming that maybe since she was not forced in her training unlike Elayne/Egwene so she is further from reaching her potential ?? (or I misread something and her number is wrong). Only Nynaeve had potential mentioned (from the little snippets I could see).

Rahvin(++1) is on the same level as Rand and Ishamael(++1) was also surprise for me. I thought Aginor is the second most powerful forsaken (I guess he still is in a way)

I don't know why there are ++ in front of the male's strength levels.

I couldn't find Verin strength level although I tried all kinds of creative search phrases , which is sort of appropriate for the character :p

Moghedien is, as I've suspected, the weakest forsaken (in the power).

This is actually one of the articles released early.

It explains the old/new numbers:
Before the appearance of Elayne, Egwene, Nynaeve, Aviendha and Nicola, there were 60 base levels of strength, each of which had internal gradations, for women who were strong enough to be raised to the shawl. After their appearance, there were 72 base levels.
The earlier distribution of Aes Sedai strengths thus ran from 1 to 60, which became 13 to 72. Women below the lowest level at which someone could become Aes Sedai were trained, but with the knowledge that they would be put out; a few received the ring for political reasons, as with Morgase. There was, of course, also the need to consider Aes Sedai reluctance to let go of a woman once they had their hands on her. Non–Aes Sedai changed this distribution to a considerable extent. Both Atha’an Miere Windfinders and Aiel Wise Ones had no lower limit for full acceptance in their organizations.
And then for men:
Rating men against this scale (that is, comparing strength in saidin to strength in saidar), there were an additional six possible levels for men at the top end.

oh. That is great, that explains some of it :) I still don't understand men's strength, but that may come when I get used to it :look:

Except...the chart doesn't make total sense. Cadsuane is on there as a 5/+8, which means she was stronger than the strongest channelers known (Suian, Moiraine, Elaida) pre-WunderGirls. Maybe they just thought of her as so far above they didn't even rank her?

She is stronger than Moiraine and co. always has been. Why would that be strange? I found a bit stranger that she is stronger than Egwene/Elayne but not impossible.
Or do you mean that it's strange she does not fit on the old ranking system?

It is said somewhere that Cadsuane is just so much stronger than everyone else, some thought that she was as strong as it was possible to be :look: So it is no wonder if she is above the old system. But as long as it only was one person who was up there, there was no need for a new system, then she was just an exception...

I am sticking to information and is based on the tWoTC. I want to point out the last thread writer commented on what I wrote below. However, the official standings are as I wrote below, and I corrected a few errors I made.

We need to stop mentioning the dead chosen and the captured damane Moggy. When Aliva becomes Aes Sedai, she will be the top woman in power in herself at 1(+12). Then Sharina Melloy's potential is 2(+11) has the same potential as Talaan, who is already 4(9+), with her reaching the level of 2(+11). Nyneave is currently 4(+9), with her potential going to 3(+10). Remember Siuan and Leane explained to Nyneave and Elayne how the hierarchy also is measured. Furthermore, the length of time of a sister the time as a Novice and Accepted and lastly, whether they were a wilder or not. Also, who or what entity put any sister in charge. However, to continue, Egwene was forced to her potential of 8(+5), and Elayne's potential is the same, ultimately being 8(+5), and it has been hinted that Bode Cauthon has the same Potential as Egwene and Elayne. If Nicola Treehill lived, she would've been the next with the potential of 9(+4) the is at Cadsuane 5(+8) then Aviendha was at a strength of 11(2) there is no information of her potential being higher. Also, Aviendha is said to be more dexterous concerning handling flows even more than Nyneave, Egwene, and Elayne. The Aiel wise one, Eddarra, is at 12(+2+) though she will not be Aes Sedai, and the same goes for Therava, who channels at 12(+1).

Concerning Moiraine, she is 66(54); however, based on her comment after being saved by Matt, Thom, and Noal, the angreal she has would make her stronger or more powerful than her original level of 13(1) level, which in the beginning she and Siuan stood the highest (just as Lelaine, Romanda, and Eliada.) Let's not forget Jancy and Elle who according to Verin would have high Potentials too. At this time, Nyneave Sedai stands the highest and, lastly, Cadsuane in the Amyrlin Seat, so though she is in the upper levels, her potential is meaningless.

I think the Companion might not give his rank, though we are told elsewhere he is maximum strength
