NB Ajah expression

Let's suppose a nonbinary Aes Sedai (or Gaidin for that matter) isn't a huge fan of shawls OR sashes, but still wishes to put their Ajah/Company on display at a Tower event.

I've considered a cloak (mostly good for colder, outdoor events; it's also pretty bulky to store) and Asha'man-style shoulder knots (great for formal dinners and definitely top of my list, but not so great for going to see the Amyrlin's tournament in my modern street clothes).

Have others explored this / do people who make costumes much more often than I do have any suggestions?

VC has two different styles of coats that are being made (they would have been on full display at anni but :cry) one long, one short and it's up to the individual which one they want to wear we decided awhile back that in general we weren't huge fans of wearing a sash and though cloaks are fine, coats won out. Then there's the wolf pin on the coat as part of the uniform too. @Dar'Jen Ab Owain has pics of the coat/ pattern for both though they are still under construction

As far as sedai shawl things, I know Lok wants to have a Victorian short capelet made for himself

What about like, an actual formal shirt? It could be a nice buttondown, but maybe loose enough to wear to something like the tournament? I'm not a costume maker by any means, but thinking you could buy it in a nice base color that you like, and then snazz it up with buttons/embriodery and even a flame on the back?

I feel like we could run a full line of merch of various kinds for this purpose. Like, badging, pins, sashes, shawls, coats, cloaks, hats, etc...

Then just standardize how each is worn for event purposes. Like sashes and shawls are pretty easy to figure out, but spins, badges, coats, cloaks, hats.... they could all have unique ways of wearing/displaying for our purposes.

I like this idea, but button downs are a bitch to make. @Kelgan al'Moranwin had an Accepted tie at one anni, which was pretty awesome, but ties are also kind of hard to make and potentially problematic while swordfighting.

That's because of the fire. (And the coats, but mostly the fire.)

So... coats aside, I'm also interested in more ideas about different Ajah representation garments. Sashes and shawls are great, but what else is there? Poncho? Like those little short, half-capes that just go over the shoulders and button in the front?

I don't see why you can't have an Ajah coat as long as it is representative of the Ajah and not easily mixed up with a company if this is something that interests you. I fully support the idea of the Red Ajah having gold details.

There are multiple of gender neutral garments, I think shawl is considered to be a bit feminine which is probably why it was picked by Jordan to represent a female society. Not saying you can't make a manly shawl or if you would want or something inbetween I am sure you could manage this as well. But anyone can also wear a cloak or a coat and many other things. There are so many variants and styles that can make them more feminine or masculine as well depending on your own personal style and preference. I mean you can add spikes if this is your thing.

I would totally wear the thing alora posted above, in black, with red details. although the neck thing is a bit weird to me, but probably a good defence against vampires.

Yeah. I'm suddenly very much feeling the idea of Ajah-ifying modern formal wear. Imagine a tux with Ajah-themed accents and subtle fantasy flair :eek

That sounds awesome, I am way too easy influenced, I already want a tux AND that lacey coat AND that black anti vampire shawl alora posted... I am just a sucker for things. I think I might have issues. Nothing new there, just realising it again.
