Just started reading The Fifth Season, only ten pages in. Finishing Skyward first, then switching over. :pleased-1:

FYI, Jemisin's Inheritance Trilogy is on sale at Amazon US (eBook) for $2.99 today. Three books + a novella for that price is insane. I read these books through my public library, and am happy to now have them in my personal library. :pleased-1:

I second this. Been wanting to read them forever, so I finally bought it.

Now to squeeze it into an Oathbringer reading I've been doing........

Read The Fifth Season not too long ago and immensely enjoyed it, 100% think it deserved its Hugo and will definitely read the rest of the trilogy.

Though maybe because she had been so hyped up, I was somewhat disappointed. Not in that it was bad--the book was great and I finished it in like 3 days. But I was kind of expecting to feel like a complete sense of awe and amazement at the inventiveness (the last book I recall having that effect on me being Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell) and that never came.

I'm gonna start reading these when I'm done with Rythmn of War. Should I just start with the first published book? Are they connected?

Well, she has a few independent series, so it depends on what you want to read. The Fifth Season is the best one to start with, in my opinion.

I've started her first trilogy (thousand kingdoms is the first book). I really liked book one, but book 2 was more of a struggle - I think the protagonist was just boring and difficult to read from her point of view. I'm going to go for book three soon though

Thousand Kingdoms is great, I'm really enjoying it so far! Broken Earth Trilogy was excellent. Looks like it's being adapted to the big screen! :joy Link.

Yes, very exciting! I hope they do a good job with it. I'm really curious how they will visualize orogeny.

I really want to get started on the third book, but something about book 2 just robbed me of all enthusiasm. It's not as though it was even that bad. As the saying goes, I wasn't angry, just disappointed.

Thousand kingdoms. There was something interesting there, but the central character was so boring I couldn’t get into it.
Whic is the opposite of what I would expect, as I don’t like descriptions, and as she was blind we weren’t getting pages telling us that trees have leaves, mountains had snow or that someone’s dress had a red trim.

I also wasn't impressed by the character development there, either of the male or female lead characters... they just seemed one dimensional.

I agree, not as interesting as the first one. I will definitely read the 3rd one though, as soon as I finish Temeraire series.

NK Jemisin is a diamond in the rough. She's been getting more recognition which is so awesome to see, because she is amazing!

Broken Earth trilogy is the best fantasy trilogy that has been published in at least a decade, if not my lifetime. I will die on this hill! :tug

For anyone who read Thousand Kingdoms and wasn't a fan, PLEASE go back and read Broken Earth. It was by far the better series IMO. The character development, in the first book in particular, was one of the best I've read.

That said, I did think it was awesome to have a blind POV in book 2 of Thousand Kingdoms. It was done really well, and I'm not sure something like that has ever done before?

Not to mention that she's a female fantasy author, and an author of color to boot! We need more of them! As much as I love Sanderson, Jordan, etc, it's refreshing to read something other than white male authors. The voice comes through completely different.
