So, I can see there have been many discussions about the TV show, but what do we think about the music? Amazon has released one soundtrack album and one concept album. Did we like it? Did we even notice it? Am I the only one who's a bit disappointed that we never got to hear Thom Merrilin sing more than one song?

You can find the soundtrack here!
You can find the concept album here!

I'm looking forward to hearing the communities views on it!

I loooooved the soundtrack. I thought it was really smart that they went with a fusion/world music style instead of stereotypical fantasy soundtrack music. It makes sense for the world, and also feels really fresh and different for the genre.

I have to admit that I didn't care for Thom's in-world song, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority there.

I enjoyed the soundtrack myself! It fits in the world, and enhance the experience, just like a great soundtrack is supposed to. I enjoyed Thom's song as well and would've loved to see more of his gleeman skills. Maybe in the next season...
What gave me the chills, though, was the concept album! I feel that Lorne Balfe really managed to capture the feeling I get when I immerse myself in the books!
Bottom line, I enjoyed the music and can't wait to see what they create next!

I've just started taking a more in-depth listen to the soundtrack myself, and I'm really appreciating most of it. I agree with Morgana Sedai about the style. There's something about it that seems to say, "There was once more, and there will be again," as though the more modern elements to the tonalities and beats are subtly pointing to the Age of Legends. It's fantasy without being epic in the sense that the LotR soundtracks were - non-symphonic, but impactful in its own right.

The concept album is interesting. I like hearing the Old Tongue in the music (and it makes me want to learn it). It feels a bit over the top to me at times, as though it pushed a little too hard on the epic-ness pedal, but there are elements of it that I do enjoy. All in all, I'm excited to hear what the next season brings!

I love the music. Haven't heard the soundtrack yet, but have listen a lot to "The First Turn" original and have a few favorites, like Al'Naio, Mashira and one more that I can't remember now.

Link to spotify. The official playist if anyone want it.

We have also discussed it before here If you haven't seen it.

Amazon uploaded it to YouTube as well, and I spent a solid week listening to it at school while teaching when it was released. I really like it! I also love how certain songs are played when certain people are on screen -- it's cool.

Sorry, I couldn't find an existing thread about the music. I guess I missed one :p

The more I listen to the soundtrack, the more I love it! It's been one of my primary sources of inspiration in my work.

That opening sequence is a treat to both the eyes and ears! Very different than what I had imagined but oh so perfect!

The music is great! Probably my favorite part of the series.
Am I the only one who's a bit disappointed that we never got to hear Thom Merrilin sing more than one song?
I am very disappointed that we did not get examples of styles (such as High Chant). I also thought that they could have slowly added a slight reverb to Thom's performance to make it "otherworldly". I hope more focus is put on the musical aspect of the show in the next season.

I too was disappointed that we only got the one song and that Thom's appearances were so short. I'm not sure why Amazon has neglected his character so much given Thom's importance in the book series.

It has to do with picking and choosing what to emphasize when your time and budget are limited. Speaking as someone who works in the film/television industry, I can tell you that it's never something done lightly. When you're trying to adapt millions of words into an allotment of eight episodes because the Big Guys up top holding the leash are saying that's all you've got to work with...well. You give the characters what you can, knowing that it's not going to be nearly enough. I have a feeling we'll see more of Thom in later seasons, but important as he is in the books, an adaptation has to make certain choices, and unfortunately not giving Thom more screen time had to be one of them.

I am absolutely in love with the soundtrack! The Concept Album was fascinating. I really want to buy a physical copy of it with all of the lyrics in The Old Tongue and translated into English.

Surprisingly, my favorite songs on the Soundtrack are Al'Dival (For the Light) and From the West. Lorne Balfe had NO RIGHT (and by that I mean every right) giving series villains (or villain-adjacent, depending on where you land on those groups) such absolute bangers. Honorable mention to Revelation, which gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it or watch that scene. :violin

Though I have no formal music training beyond being in a choir, I've been very tempted to write something like an analysis essay of From the West in particular. That song has so many absolutely fascinating musical layers that hint at things to come! It would be full of spoilers, so I'll refrain from going into more detail here. But let me just say that I turn on From the West whenever I need to get hyped for something...and then immediately feel conflicted about it. :song

The show's theme was perfect. I thought the soundtrack overall was one of the strongest elements of the show, especially the individual character themes.

Also, a special spotlight for the folk song about Manetheren - that was the one that stuck after the show for me!

Huh weird note

"Part 5 of 5. Well, we spent the night celebrating the rescue of the S’Redit herd, getting to know them, and packing up for the trip home in the morning. One of the Accepted tossed some coffee on CB, the Yeti. He shrunk up and crawled back into the Soldier’s pack. At first light, thanks to our Ogier guide, we headed back into the Ways. The S’Redits were a little freaked by it, but Timurid calmed them down and got them moving along. It was a fun jaunt back, some of the S’Redits even let us ride on their backs - that was amazing! We slipped quietly back into the Ogier grove at TarValon.Net. I don’t think anyone saw us or even knew we were gone. Each of us took an S’Redit to care for and hide. I hope mine likes fish heads, because Ma is going to kill me when I bring mine home! And where am I going to hide it!!"

I still need an official version of the various tales. Thinks like Jack O' The Shadows, Return from Tarwin's Gap, or Tinker in the Kitchen
