Doesn't Gawyn more or less say outright that the real reason he was so against Rand that he was jealous that some peasant got to be the hero the world was looking to, and he got to be some nobody?

Not just that, but I recall Gawyn having trouble swallowing the idea that he would have to play second fiddle to Egwene.

. . . which I could understand if his issue revolved around "but I'm supposed to serve Elayne, not you," but it doesn't. He basically ignores Elayne.
