Yeah, I did not get the whole screaming thing. But, I remember thinking that the screaming was a part of the cultural tradition?

I'm pretty sure, yeah. He was elected to "release" their collective grief, and screaming is a good way to do that.

I'm actually okay with the majority of the changes, but the biggest gripe I have was the weird Perrin/Rand/Egwene love triangle argument. Even looking at this as a separate story from the books, it felt forced for a conflict.

I read a theory somewhere that the love triangle was actually Perrin being upset that Rand and Egwene got together because he was in love with Rand instead, and while I don't believe that, I do prefer it.

I so wish that was the case! Though, if any of the three boys were queer, I think it would be Mat.

Like...I get that it was hinted at, but then they had Nynaeve bring it out into the open, which...is really out of character for her too, I might add. I feel like she would chide people for being woolheads , or try to steer them away from petty drama, not stir it up.

The love triangle was made worse by the fact that Perrin had just killed his wife.... and he's also mooning over a crush.... Just not very Perrin if you ask me.

Exactly this. I know a lot of Perrin's story arc was changed for character development, but this bit was...it felt forced and icky.

I was trying to put my finger on why it bothered me, and this is it. The story (and by story I mean hints that we're given in the books and show and interviews and whatnot) is that Perrin and Layla got together almost immediately after Rand and Egwene got together, so he was already using Layla as "second place" for the girl he wanted.

But since they went that route, they need to give Perrin time to mourn. And I get that they've been rather busy, but everyone else seems to get quiet moments to grieve and reflect and whatnot, but Perrin is just... lusting after Egwene instead, like he was glad to get Layla out of the way.

And knowing that he's the one that struck the killing blow, I think that the guilt of what he did would be enough to keep him away from Egwene because he'd be afraid that what Machin Shin said was true. That he killed her on purpose. He didn't, but he doesn't want to believe that he did, or believe that he could, so I think he'd be avoiding Egwene just to prove a point to himself that it was an accident and wasn't about Egwene at all.

But... here we are.

My thoughts on Lan: the funeral scene was a chance to really contrast his usual stoic nature. That one place was where he could let out his grief while remaining stoic elsewhere.

Agree.

My main issues are also the weird hinted love triangle with Perrin, Rand, and Egwene that should have just never happened at all (why? Did the producers tell them to add some love triangle drama? So stupid) and the last episode, which was such a massive piece of work I don’t know where to begin. I think some problems with the show stem from things they had no control over, like Covid happening, and how much money and how many episodes Amazon was willing to give them, and the actor for Mat not returning. That’s got to be super destabilizing for so many unforeseen things to happen during production. So, I’m still holding out hope for the second season.
