LGBTQ+ Inclusion in the Television Series

Okay guys, this will be my last post to this thread, until the actual show is out. I´ll stay at the point that can be ways to exaggerate inclusion in the show, but I also don‘t want to put it to 0 (and never wanted it.) The message of a book or book series can be changed if there is changed too much for whatever reason. LGBTQ is the example in this thread, but this is actually the case for other changes, too. I just don‘t like movie or show adaptations that much which have not that much to do with the actual books, anymore. Probably we should just wait, until the show is out to get better arguments and see who is right.

I see that this is a very emotional topic, for you, but also for me. A few semesters ago I‘ve been in a course for Gender Studies, actually to end some prejudices that I could have, unnoticing… It created more than it ended. In these few days in this thread I probably understood some things better than in this whole semester. Most of the time it was all about feminism and sometimes a bit racism but they don‘t differentiate LGBTQ from feminism, here anyway. In this course people were also quite proud on being politically radical. Although there are also some nice LGBTQ-people in Germany, at least the representatives from them and feminists, here and for example in Great Britain can be harsh and insulting, too, demanding their rights and what they think would be their rights. Very few people criticize them, except of right-wing extremists, which I am definitely not.

This frustrates me.

Because of these reasons I have to admit that I was a bit annoyed when I saw that there is a whole thread about how you can bring more LGBTQ in WoT which is one of my favorite book series. Although I really tried not to do it this may have resulted in also me crossing a few lines. I apologize for that.

Being LGBTQ and speaking honestly about it isn't being politically radical. In my case and with my post, it's about wanting respect and acknowledgment that I exist.

You really can't assume anyone's political alignment by their sexual preference. It'd be like saying only liberals like red hair.

With respect, I think you may have a ways to go in educating yourself before you're able to speak about something like this without revealing just how deep the ignorance goes. I don't mean that as an insult. It's a statement of truth, because there are a number of perhaps unknown biases brought to light in what you've said here.

I agree with Sela.

I would just like to say that I would greatly appreciate the presence of LGBTQ+ relationships in the series. I am gay, married to a man, I have bonus kids and a rather "normal" Family life. I believe our culture influences how we see things and TV-series such as the upcoming WOT series is a part of said culture. I would love to see a "matter of fact" "normalized" LGBTQ+ relationship. No fuzz, no drama (apart from any drama that comes with love :p) and no OMG THIS IS SO CUTTING EDGE. Just love, please :).

Durin, I will respect your right of opinion, but I hereby state that I disagree with most of them, which is my right. You sometimes say you will respect others' point of view, and I just hope you mean that. I will leave it at that.

On a side note, I would have been super happy if Perrin's story had a male love interest. Fal, could have been his name. He would probably still have been a little annoying ;) :p.

WHAT! Where is this from!?!!?! I'm so excited. I ship Moiraine and Siuan so hard. If they depict their romance more openly than it was acknowledged in New Spring, I will be overjoyed.

Jordan did hint at relationships and what happens in close quarters. Take Elaida , didn't she have a fellow red want to seduce her for political gain? I remember something . There's lots of scope for non gender conformity. Al though not a lot in the books. Though I've forgotten a lot of them so forgive my memory.
As someone who's hetroflexible, pansexual etc I'm all for whatever happens. If done with grace and not over focusing on the story of doom impending on randland.

It's actually a leaked photo from the explore tab-- Amazon accidentally made it discoverable. Explore tab is down now while they solve this and I imagine they'll start doing DNR notices soon so this pic will disappear.

There's a BUNCH of leaked photos but this was the only one that matters to me so I saved it

And look at the location they're in. Bamboo/reed walls, a fisher's net, and we know Tear appears from the interactive map that was on the explore tab.

The walls in the shot do seem to be exterior walls given the light filtering through them, so while I like the idea of Siuan "keeping it real" in her quarters like that, somehow I think it's the two of them meeting up somewhere outside the Tower. We know it happens once in New Spring-- Tear seems like a place for two Aes Sedai to meet up when they don't want other Aes Sedai to know.

Oh, I don't think it's actually her quarters. I just think it would be weirdly charming if it were: in public she's this regal Amyrlin, and then you go to her private sanctum and it's basically a Tairen fishing hut at the top of the Tower.

Min does say that her study is furnished with things you'd find in an average Tairen fisherman's hut, so I like it too ^_^

ETA:

I just finished watching the Dusty Wheel's interview with Kelly the casting director. Based on the entire conversation, this is what I've walked away with:

  • She really wanted to get the job as casting director because it's diverse, and "dare I say it, queer?"
  • Her and Rafe really seemed to bond over being queer together
  • she works very hard to avoid problematic actors

I think this is how we ended up with Kae, a nonbinary person, playing Min, and I think it means Elayviendha is even less of a pipe dream than it has been.

Oh, I didn't know that about Min's casting! Fantastic. I can totally see that working.

I went from not too hot on the idea of Elayviendha to really excited about it, and I hope that is what we get. I got a definite sort of "Rand living the dream" vibe from the arrangement in the books, and I would love to see them behaving more like a mixed group of adults having consensual relationship with each other, not necessarily with Rand at the center of it.
