Let me reintroduce myself...

A Netland Towers alum - I can't recall if we talked prior to the Pause but hi! My first WoT site was the Netland Towers. Well, technically it was just the Netland White Tower then because... well, I'm old and there was no Black Tower yet  Anyway, nice to meet you!
Hello! I was part of NT from 2008, so after it dropped the "White" from the title, but it was still many moons ago. Nice to meet you as well, we may know some old souls from our various stints there.

Well this is a good start ^_^

It's definitely okay to be a lurker until you start feeling comfortable, vibing with what have you, and you can look forward to some of the events which will be forthcoming which will offer other ways to up your posts. But hey, feel free to reply here, at your leisure as people post their welcome messages.

Glad to have you with us!

PS:
Personal plug here, do you like trivia games or the like?
Thank you for your kind words. Re: Trivia games, I am a fan of derpy things like Gartic Phone or the various Jackbox games more than "knowing stuff" games.
Welcome Murdock, glad to have you with us. :)
Thank you <3 Willow is one of my absolute favourite names and, not related but also kind of, my second favourite Buffy character (after Cordelia)
Good post. And great to meet you. Perhaps, again.

Obviously, we're getting things back up and running. But if you have a question, feel free to reach out. And if you have a thought you'd like to discuss, feel free to post.
Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated.
Welcome and greets.
Thank you! <3
I'm so sorry, but I saw the title of this thread and now I can't get this out of my head:

All right!
Stop whatcha doin'
'cause I'm about to ruin
the image and the style that ya used to.
I look funny,
but yo I'm makin' money, see
so yo world I hope you're ready for me.
Now gather round
I'm the new fool in town
and my sound's laid down by the Underground.
I drink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf
so just let me introduce myself
My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty.
I don't get the reference but I hope it sparks joy nonetheless!
Hello and welcome!
Thank you! And thank you for all your hard work behind the scenes. I don't know you but I wish you the best in the next part of your TarValon journey.
Howdy! I’m so glad you posted so we can greet you properly (or again). Jump in as you feel comfortable, we’re glad you’re here! :D
Thank you that is kind of you to say.
Welcome!! It can be hard to jump in, but just take the leap! :welcome:
Attempts to leap will be made.
Thank you!
Welcome to TarValon!
And thank you to you as well!
Welcome Murdock!
Also thank you!
And another thank you <3
Welcome! I get what you mean so much about it being difficult when you're shy to jump in to posts or to make new ones. It's still like that for me and I've been a member off and on for 15 years. It's really nice to meet you, and I'm glad you stuck around despite the hiatus!
That is very kind of you to say and I'm glad I'm not alone in that feeling. May we both find lots of nice things to talk about and post about here.
Welcome and congrats on being the first introduction in the channel, even if it is a reintroduction.

I totally get how hard it can be wanting to engage but being a bit stuck in the lurk. Personally, I'm using the "Oo shiny new thing" appeal of the newly revamped boards to get me back into the thick of it. I find discussions on stuff that I'm currently excited about, whether I know much at all about it or not, can help to bridge the 'not knowing anyone' nerves. Also, if you've enjoyed WoT roleplay oriented sites before, I think we have a roleplay guild(?) I don't know for certain, and I also don't know if you'd have access pre-citizenship, but hopefully.
I do plan on rolling around in the roleplay guild area, I know it's not the main focus of the site but it would be super fun to take part in.

Also, the first introduction: I'm giving myself a small hat for the occasion.
Thank you!
Welcome!!!!
Another thank you <3
Ahh thank you!

Hello!

I'm one of those lurky lurks :look: It's possible to make those connections, Lord knows the names in my sig attest to it lol. I for one commend you for the intro post! Those aren't easy.

I found that watching gave me an idea where I might feel comfortable dipping my toes and then I ran with it. All the way to Director :look: so I guess my advice is patience and you'll find your space and your people :)

Welcome! Thanks for sticking with us through the hiatus, I commend you for that!
Those first 25 posts can be challenging, but you're off to a good start. There will be more places for you to post and get engaged once you become a Citizen, so it should get easier for you to engage after this initial effort.
In the meantime, you could drop in on some of the other introduction posts and say hello to people there - conversations there should be relatively easy. Good luck!
Also, feel free to reach out to me any time with questions as you move forward. :gray1:

Thread title as per this song:
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruEmffzbW4E

I joined the forums just a couple of weeks before The Great Hiatus or whatever we want to call it. I've been in a few of the Discord forums and have been quietly observing, waiting for the forums to reopen. I love the new look and the option for the pink and purple headers is SO CUTE.

As I've been looking around the place and watching how people engage with one another, I've been wondering at how I can integrate with the community. I don't think I have the rapport (or the social skills...) to make any real impression in chat at this time, nor am I comfortable or super interested in posting in the more spammy, lighthearted threads. Which are great! I'm so glad to see people are here and thriving, but it's just not my thing. I also don't know who anyone actually is, so I've been reading around and going "is this person in Discord?"... I suppose learning these things comes with time and familiarity.

So how does a shy, not super posty person like Murdock get to 25 posts and learn more about the community? How does he take part in meaningful conversations and make those connections with other people on the site? Easier said than done, but I thought to myself: Make another introduction post and go from there. If you don't put yourself out there then how can you get to know people?

I want to connect with people. I've written on other sites (roleplay focussed) in the past, even met some of those people IRL, and have some very fond memories of them. I miss that sense of community that I used to have with them. At Netland Towers, everyone took off and it puttered away. At Grey Tower, there was a surge of activity that sort of dissipated. I don't mean to take it personally, it's not about me, it's more a commentary on the transient nature of writing online I think, but I miss that interaction.

But! I want to thank the people I have spoken to online so far. In the roleplaying Discord I was invited to I've spoken to some really lovely people, all of whom use their roleplaying handles rather than the TarValon names, so whoever you are here... hello and thank you for letting me write as Bryce, the Red potato. I have enjoyed and valued those interactions, though I think I come across as a bit too extra with wanting to write everywhere and apologise for that.

So anyway... here I am. Hello! I'm Murdock, and I look forward to getting to know the people here. Let's have some conversations. 😊
I'm a Netland towers alum as well. I've grown and changed a lot since who I was 25 years ago.. (I was there when it was just Netland WhiteTower, both came after my day).

Well 25 posts can be easier to get by posting on your introduction thread.. I'd say other introductions as well.. but.. its kinda cleaned up..

There is another member who had his 25 and requested joining the day the haitus started.. I'll encourage him to repost an introduction thread.. see if that helps as well.

Welcome (back) Murdock! I was also really hesitant to jump in, well, anywhere when I first started. But you seem great, and I have a feeling you'll find your place soon enough! When you can, head over and jump into conversations at The Olde Warder & Hen!

Also, a fellow Cordelia fan!! You're a man of good taste, sir.

Who's your favorite Wheel of Time character? And do you have a favorite plotline?

I think this is sound advice and I will poke around some more as I grow more familiar with the environment. Am I known for my patience? Ehhh...

Please tell me this isn't just a turn of phrase and you are going to get a comedically small hat
I don't really suit hats but I'm wearing a comically small hat in spirit.

So many Netland alumni, I don't think I've seen anyone I recognise from my time there but there's something nice about knowing other people wrote there as well. I joined... about 17 years ago now? brb having a small midlife crisis on that one.
Good to meet you, and welcome to the Tower!
Thank you <3

Who's your favorite Wheel of Time character? And do you have a favorite plotline?
Thank you! And yes, my two favourite character archetypes are "sassy bitch" and "gentle potato", so Cordelia/Willow, Cersei/Sansa...

I have a couple of favourite WoT characters. On a first read through I resonated with Elayne and Perrin. I was quite young at the time though so on later readthroughs, and having the context of the whole series, my top three are (not in any order)

Semirhage: We see a fair bit of "humanising" of other Chosen but she's just plain evil and I love her for it. No excuses, no apologies, she's just a bad person. Also I really love the theorycrafting behind Healing weaves, and as any Grey Tower person can confirm, I have Strong Feelings about the opposite, which the WoT RPG refer to as Rending. We get too much Lanfear, not enough Semirhage. I wanted to see her intimidate some of the other Chosen.

Egwene: As a fellow tryhard who wants to do the right thing but isn't necessarily very popular because of it, I can relate. Apart from she is talented and powerful and I am a potato. Some of her scenes with Elaida are my absolute favourite. Is that my favourite plotline...? I also like Elaida as a character (I'd hate to meet her, but to read? Yes).

Mesaana: I'm not trying to put a downer on myself but her history really resonates with me. She wants to do one thing, but isn't successful enough. She wanted to do her little nerdy job and was constantly overlooked. There's something a bit tragic about her and how she handles herself that interests me and makes me a little bit reflective. It feels like she was a victim of a modern capitalist system - good to know research and grants were as irritating in the AoL as they can be now.

The fact that 2/3 of my top 3 are Chosen is probably not indicative of my character 😬

My favourite plotline might have to be Egwene as the Little Amyrlin in the White Tower. But I also love love love the Tower of Ghenji and everything to do with that. I was SO HYPED with that particular adventure as well! 11/10, no notes, would like more.

Thank you for your questions making me think about things.

I am also not known for my patience… (ask my Warders and my Brother) :look:

Welcome Murdock! I'm glad you stuck with us. We have all types around here from the super quiet to the massive extroverts, so just putter around wherever you feel inclined. If you're not careful though, one of those extroverts might adopt you, that's how I make most of my friends anyway. :D

Welcome Murdock!

Egwene is such a great character, I'm currently reading the gathering storm for the first time, and she is rocking it!! SO GOOD. Up until this point, I thought the shadow rising was my favourite book, but now I think it'll be this one.. Which book is your favourite?

I mean, I say that, but also it's @Willow al'Meana who hosts the most regular recurrence of gartic phone and other silly games.

I just have ambitions to do more regular game events for Tar Valon is all ^_^

I LOVED reading Egwene's part of TGS - so so so good!!!

Just a quick welcome back to you too, from one newbie to the other, Murdock! I feel the apprehension of getting to know everybody, and also a bit of 'there was trouble and I don't know what it was and that don't matter but now it's starting again and I'm joining now and how is this going to roll' but I'm just trying to go with it. Have fun, react to stuff that feels nice and skip the other parts. Chances are you'll end up talking to a bunch of people sharing the same interests cause they come back to the same stuff and skipp the same things. I'm mostly about the WoT content here, so I'm just gonna go with the reading of the books and character talk and so on, and we'll see if it develops into something else from there :) I hope you have a good journey finding out!
