I can't do the TV show, does it make me a bad wheel of time fan?

I don't see images in my head either, I kinda keep a list of key features about a person or place (like, I don't know what Rand looks like but I know he's tall, has red hair, light eyes and is paler than everyone else from his village). The fancy name for it is aphantasia :)

I find this absolutely fascinating. When I read I get transported to entire worlds of images/even video like in nature. Like at the end of the Eye Of the World, the Green Man, I saw every motion of the green man in detail, his image clear in my mindseye... same with hopper and the whitecloacks... *growls* best I not go on, for I have unfinished business with the white cloaks -wolfbrother goldeneyes *howls into the night*

Side note, your profile picture scared the crap out of me. lol @Yenie Antagar Gaidin's profile picture just made me go oh yeah, that def fits Yenie personality and made me laugh, but it didn't scare me. :rofl

I don't see images either. And what's more, I make changes to key features if I don't like them or I don't think they fit :eek

I think this is awesome and empowering, but I can not understand... if I couldn't form images/video while reading and get lost in these worlds like I do in that path so to speak... I don't know I would be a reader to be honest. I consider myself very lucky to have such a powerful mindseye/imagination whatever you want to call it. Though to be fair, it can also be a curse... because I never forget anything important, like moments in my life... I can go back to several days in college and replay them in real time like video almost, some stuff is blurry... but most I can work out... its not all memories just major/semi-major ones... but over the years they add up... and sometimes I just wish they would go away. It's frustrating at times.

Moiraine is short and pale in the books, as are all Cairhienin. That I think has been dropped, which is actually a change I like. The "the people in this country somehow all ended up with specific ethnic features" never made sense - either based on the 3500 years, and several countries since the Breaking, or the idea that pre- breaking it had been a utopia for thousands of years, but people had still segregted themselves based on skin colour.
But "no one knows if the Dragon is going to be channeling Saidin or Saidar" bothers me, it completely changes how society views the idea of the Dragon being Reborn. Aging up the characters bothers me. They can get away with a little as simple village folk, but get away with so much more as teenagers rather than grown adults in their early 20s. Nynaeve can still feel protective of them as Wisdom, but the relationship of the adults to the Wisdom is different to the relationship of the children, so much of what we see in the books won't make sense if she is only a couple of years older than them, rather than 8-10.
I suppose they might just be taking a lot of the complexity out of it, and just telling a simpler story, but that isnt really one I am interested in watching.

I think they messed up on the allocation of how to spend the money. Hollywood has a bad habit of executives thinking they know what the audience wants, when in fact they have lived such fast paced/rich life in Cali they have lost touch in major ways. That's my hypothesis anyway.

Honestly I would have been 1000x happier with a top tier anime of WoT or something, cause it still leaves a little to the imagination (some anime art styles anyway) and the magic could have been insanely well done in an anime too, where as in this one it will have to be budget... and whitecloaks could have pearl white armor as well like they should have cause again it doesn't cost extra in anime. lol

Yeah, I think I just assumed "mind's eye" was a metaphor, and for years, didn't realise that people could close their eyes and still "see" things, or "summon" images of people or places, in a similar way to how I can with sounds or music.
Apparently, some people don't have an inner monologue, so assume that when people talk about this, that is also a metaphor

This all blows my mind lol I mainly think in pictures (to the point that I cannot spell out loud unless I specifically picture the word written down in my mind and read it from there) so not being able to see pictures in your mind and still be able to read or think just is boggling to me :eek

Same, it's very hard to wrap my head around how they can even enjoy reading or listening to audible. Weird thing about me is I can't form the images when I do audible, its purely a reading talent for me. It's all so odd, I don't get it.

Yeah... I have memory problems. I don't remember but a few moments in my past....
I have a very creative imagination, it's just not in pictures. It's really hard to explain how I "see" or "imagine" things so... I just know it's not actual imagery

I have wondered how women with aphantasia would learn to channel. When asked to picture a flower in their mind and visualise it opening up, this isn’t something they can literally do.

Maybe that's why some of them have blocks, that would be interesting :)

Ha, that might be it! I can never do guided meditations that focus on imagery either, they just make me grumpier :tug

Having played approximately 50 different novice channelers in my day (yes, I have a problem!), I tend to approach the embracing of the one power as being a shift in mindset and not so much a visualization. You don't picture the rosebud; you are the rosebud. You feel saidar there on the edge of your mind. If you try only to picture it and not experience, you won't be successful. Just my two bits as someone who cannot visualize well.

I also wondered if I could do the flame and the void. I think an actual flame is beyond me, but if I concentrate really hard, I can just about manage an orange blob.

I can picture a moving flame in perfect detail including all of its unique flickering as a meditation type exercise... it's so weird to me learning people have different imaginations

Same here I can't do pictures in my mind if I listen to audible. Only if I am reading it. If I can't see what I am reading in my minds eye I know I am tired and can't focus on what I am reading which is when I become frustrated. Then I need white noise to focus. I need both images in my mind and focus, in order to continue reading. I only listen to audible when going to work or exercising. And when books are easy and I don't try to see or imagine it.

@Melina Tashir !!! Exeter?!?!? We did a Wheel of Time meetup in Exeter in spring 2019, was only about 5 of us here from the site!!! wish I had seen your name before to ask you to join us! blasted!

Sorry only now seen this! Oh man I would have loved to come. It's my fault I am a lurker. I don't get notified a lot of the time when a post comes through here. And then my real life gets in the way all the time! But yes happy to do meet ups when they come around again :)

Don't want to jump into a conversation and completely ignore the original topic but I can't not comment on aphantasia! I always describe it as imagining with ideas and emotional connotations as opposed to visuals. I can do visuals but only one or two items, never landscapes, and it's always crude and requires a lot of concentration.
Also, one of my favourite authors has Aphantasia as well! Mark Lawrence, he even did a short creative writing on it.
