How did you start reading this massive series that this site is based on?

I started reading this series because a good friend of mine badgered me until I started reading it :look: I think I started reading while waiting for her to pick up a book from the library, and I was immediately hooked :D I read the rest of the books in quick succession and eagerly awaited the last book.
Sadly, RJ had just died shortly before I started reading, so I saw little hope in that :( Now of course we all know the ending to that story. I was thrilled when I discovered that the series might get finished after all, and it also gave me a new favourite author, Brandon Sanderson :)

I also remember when a friend and I dressed up as Aes Sedai, with dresses and shawls, and went out to buy the final book. Sadly, hardly anyone saw us, and only the salesman in the store even commented on it :(

I have reread the WoT at least once a year, and I am currently listening to it on Audible for the first time :pleased-1:

I wanted to read a fantasy book. Just a single fantasy book, cause I liked writing fantasy... - And I thought... hey ... maybe I should read a fantasy book...
I had a look at the bigger bookshelf in a normal supermarket and took out eye of the world. It mentioned: Completly in one book! For the first time!
It was like the english version, and not splitted into two books, what normaly is the case.... but I didn't know that.
I thouhgt it would be a complete story.
I read the back of the book. I read the first page or so in the store... And thought...
'Sounds interesting....'

And as I reliazed, that it was the start of a biiiiiiig story, I was deep into it.:pleased-1:

I had just subscribed to Audible and I wanted to dive into a fantasy series. So I googled "fantasy series" or something like that. I found a list, and The Wheel of Time stood out to me. I bought the first book and fell in love.

My parents read the series and we had all of the published books at the time (2003 I think?), so they told me to check it out. Now I'm a bigger fan than either of them!

The guy I had a crush on in high school was doing a re-read before book 8 came out, so I started reading them. :look:

I'm waaaaay more heavily involved in the fandom than he ever was.

My college boyfriend was reading Crown of Swords, which had just come out, the summer I spent staying with him and his mom in Seattle. I asked him if it was any good so he let me borrow Eye of the World, and I read the first five books in about 5 weeks.

I saw the first book in a bookstore and then checked for the books on ebay. There, I bought the first 11 books (in Germany, the english books are split into 2-3 books) for 1 Euro :pleased-1:

My niece asked me to look for the books her husband was missing of the series when I was shopping for books at thrift stores... I actually found him a couple and once I read the cover "summary" I started buying them new for me and Brian LOL

I knew my older brother read the books. I remember my Mum picking some of them up for him in a charity shop at one point. I was in a book store before I went to Canada, looking for books to read on the plane. Eye of the World was in the "Buy 2, get one free" offer, so I picked it up. And never looked back :look:

When I was a kid, I ate, slept, and breathed theater. I spent all my free time in the playhouse, either helping with the little kid shows or working on ours. I was one of the youngest in my group (I started at 11, in sixth grade) since most of the other people in my group were in high school. So all my friends were a lot older than me. They treated me like I was their age though, which I appreciated.

Anyway, all of us were voracious readers, and most of the guys really loved fantasy. I tended to hang out mostly with the guys and we would talk about the books, and all of them started nagging me about reading them too. I had never read fantasy to this point, though they though I could handle it since I also read Shakespeare. I felt like they were ordering me to read them, and I really didn't like being told what to do. I put them until the end of the school year (this started the summer before so a whole year I held out), when I finally caved and read Eye when one of the guys got out Shadow Rising and read the bubbles of evil scenes in the beginning with Rand, Mat, and Perrin. Note, if you ever get the chance, have a thespian read action scenes to you. It is awesome.

I LOVED it! I started nagging them about every little detail! They created a monster. I was the little sister from hell after that. They were great about it though and actually encouraged me to talk about theories and to think about what was going on. They were great guys and I am so grateful for their nagging.

Mr. Nem and I had a college friend who was really into reading fantasy. He pointed me toward David Eddings and that got me started with the genre. I hadn't met WoT until he purged some of his book collection. One book was a paperback copy of Eye of the World (no cover and he already owned the hardback anyway). I was bored and decided to give it a try after having it for a while. It took me three tries to get through the first chapters of EotW because of college stuffs but so glad I did :pleased-1:

The same friend also asked me to keep The Wheel of Time: World of Robert Jordan (aka "the big white book") so the dust jacket wouldn't get damaged during one of their (he and his wife) moves. I mentioned I still had it afterward, but he ended up not wanting the it any longer. It's still with my own hardback copies of WoT.

For me, I like the cover of the dragon reborn and thought a fantasy novel with a sword and the title, the dragon reborn must be cool!
Found out that it is a series and read eye of the world. Like it very much and read the rest of the series at one go, until crown of sword.
Then slowly, followed through the series year by year.
Was sad when RJ died, thought I would never get to see the endings to such a great series.
Was glad when Brandon took over the job.

I had read and reread David Eddings books and was chatting with a friend about looking for something new to read. He mentioned this book called the Eye of the World and told me to read it....so I did. Sadly to say I wasn’t a fan of it. This friend badgered me to at least give book 2 a chance, so I did. And here I am today.

And now, I really enjoy my reread of book 1.:)

My friend gave the first book (as I seem to remember) to my sister, who then one dark night, after some Goldschlagger with her friend Wendy, decided to make a website devoted to the books. I heard about the website for years. One day, long ago, in Florida :look: at my parents home and after a bit of wine :look:, Padra and Eleyan said to me "OMG YOU have to join our site!" So they brought up the computer and made me a member....without ever reading a solitary book ever :indifferent:. I joined, had a good time and started reading my butt off when I suddenly found myself a Novice and not knowing a dang thing about the series. I was the second longest Novice ever....at least back at that time. Enjoyed it, got to meet RJ and his wife over the years. Found many friends. Left the site and am now back again. Seems to happen to many of us.

I was visiting at a friend's house and saw on their bookshelf that they have the 1st and 2nd book, so I asked to borrow them and read them. It was hard, the first few chapters, but then I got super hooked :D obviously :p

I tried to get some of my ex-boyfriends and my husband hooked, but none gave in :p I did recommend them to a friend recently, who really like them and read them almost as fast as I did :evil

I studied history at university, and the syllabus was 99% in english and rest in german, so I was really fed up reading english. Went to the book store next to the university and said I want something fantasy and in NORWEGIAN. And she gave me the first book and I was like "nice" and got hooked. That was in 1997/1998. Bought the first 5-7 books in norwegian, then it got too slow translating to norwegian, so I started buying in english as well. :pleased-1:

My dad picked up Eye of the World somewhere. He really liked it and passed it on to my sister and me. My dad had introduced me to Tolkien and Eddings when I was 7 and I had devoured most of their books and was looking for another epic series by the time my dad found Eye of the World. We started reading the series when 3 or 4 books were out, and I've been a superfan ever since.

It was late 1997. My friends in college were raving about this Wheel of Time series. They couldn't believe with how much fantasy and sci-fi I had read that I had not picked it up. Finally tired of their nagging to read it so they could talk about it, I went out to my all time favorite used book store (Ye Olde Booke Shoppe) and snatched up all the books to Crown of Swords. We hit winter break and once I started I could not stop reading. I read all seven books that had been released up to that point in less than two weeks.

I attacked those books like Mat trying to flirt with women: non stop, voracious and grinding on past exhaustion. When I had finished I could not wait to talk about it to my friends. The series is how I really got online in the first place, seeking out others to talk to about WoT and my other nerdy interests. Little did I know but that's how I would eventually meet my wife, @Cahalan Sothron , at one of those role play sites that sadly no longer exist.
