With the movement of Mods/Ops to Cordamora, there is a shift in duties for this role, as well an expansion to the number of individuals to be in this role. The current Tower Mediator will review all applications and have an active voice in selecting candidates; Cordamora retains the final decision.

Overview:

Discourse between members can lead to conflicts. In order to help resolve issues between members, we are expanding the Tower Mediator position. They will continue to offer peer mediation when conflicts occur by facilitating communication and understanding on both sides of the disagreement. Any member may request mediation of their own volition, or site administration will be able to recommend or even require mediation.

The person(s) in this role will now also oversee the Forum Content Moderators/Discord Operators. Tower Mediators will not make any decisions regarding a potential consequence for violations to the Code of Conduct, but they will have an equal voice to the Director of Membership in making suggestions to the Cordamora for violations reported through any channel.

We are looking to hire 2 more people as Tower Mediators to bring the total number to 3 in this role. This is a non-rotating admin role that reports directly to the Cordamora/CMO. It is eligible for the Administrator Merit.

Requirements:
  • Must be a member in good standing for at least 12 months.
  • Must be able to dedicate 10-15 hours per week, though this could fluctuate depending upon need.
  • Must be trustworthy and able to keep discussions confidential.
  • Must work well with others, and be able to stay in timely contact with the Cordamora, Director of Membership, Mods/Ops, and fellow admins.
  • Must have conflict resolution skills, and be willing to work with parties who will be at odds with one another.
  • Must be knowledgeable about our Membership Manual, Code of Conduct, and Bylaws.
  • The ideal candidate will have formal conflict resolution or de-escalation training/experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mediate conflicts between members as they arise, either at the request of members or at the request of Mods/Ops, and/or site administration.
  • Encourage communication and understanding on both sides of the disagreement.
  • Document interaction and report resolution results to the Cordamora.
  • Supervise, hire, & train Forum Content Moderators/Discord Operators
  • Become expertly familiar with the processes within the Accountability Guide (when it becomes available) and be able to provide a balanced opinion on potential consequences for violations to the Code of Conduct, when asked
