Thank you all for your patience in waiting for us to be ready to re-launch the guilds! The current vision is to take a bit from the past, but move forward in a way that reflects our current practice. We’re looking at providing structure in a meaningful way for members who share a common interest on a specific topic. The Guild Coordinator will be in the unique position to provide that structure without being overly rigid. As this is a new position, the person selected will have a significant impact on the shape of the initiative from development to implementation to maintenance. Without an exact baseline from past tenure, the job description is subject to change. Please reach out with any questions and we will answer what we can.

Overview:

The Guilds Coordinator (GC) is a brand new, non-rotating administrative position in the Department of Online Events. The GC will lead and manage the establishment of our community’s guild associations. The GC will also organize and maintain a list of members who participate in the guilds, and help coordinate any guild activity both virtually and at real life events. Time spent in this role counts toward the Administrative Merit. The GC reports to the Director of Online Events.


Requirements:

  • Must be a member in good standing within the Tower for at least 6 months.
  • Must be able to lead and coordinate activities effectively with a team
  • Experience with the former iteration of guilds is a plus.
  • While it is not required, experience launching innovative efforts and noting membership trends/activity is highly desirable
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Discern and create guild(s) based on membership activity
  • Keep a list of members who participate in guilds, as well as a list of active guilds
  • Manage the guild activity and moderate the space for compliance with the Code of Conduct
  • Work with the Director of Online Events to create events to occur virtually or in conjunction with real life events
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Membership to promote and publicize events
  • Time commitment will vary week-to-week (5-10 hours per week) and will increase leading up to planned events. Time commitment may be more in the beginning, as the implementation and founding of the Guilds is happening from the ground up.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Online Events, as this is a new role

Thanks for getting this set up! I'm looking forward to participating in the new system.

However, I don't understand why "Experience with the former iteration of guilds is a plus." How would participating in a system that went defunct over 10 years ago be relevant to the present iteration? I can see how they share similarities, but I don't think it's a good metric to consider during hiring. Even as a tiebreaker you'd basically be asking, "was either member here in 2011 or earlier?"

It’s a plus as far as having some understanding as to where we’ve been. It’s absolutely not a requirement or even highly desirable. Just a plus.

If there are multiple applicants who meet the basic requirements, we will look more closely at how successful the person was in leading teams, launching innovative efforts, as well as noting membership trends. All of that will weigh more heavily than past experience with the guilds here.

Personally, I remember them. But I wasn’t necessarily heavily involved. So please don’t let the “experience with past guilds is a plus” deter anyone from applying.

What Morri said. It is just a plus that said person remembers what they were like. The best person is the best person for the job regardless of how long they have been a member (within the requirements), imo.
