oh I love your name. It reminds of Dorian Gray (which you said it was) and also my favorite manga, Mars, which has a character named Rei. :P

Yep. It's part Dorian Gray, part music reference.

Dorian is one of 7 "church modes" in music. They are often used in contemporary music (romantic, impressionist, and 20/21st century), though if I remember right, they originate much much earlier (medieval/renaissance or earlier?). Dorian is a scale that is created by taking a major scale and lowering the 3rd and 7th note, producing a minor key.
It is also the same thing as if you were to play a D major scale without the sharps. and it just so happens that D is Re (do re mi fa, etc.) in C major, which has no flats or sharps... so.... Dorian (mode) starts on Re(i). (also, Dorian's drunk alter-ego is "Super-Tonic", but that's even more music theory!)
