Help Verify Elia's Gold Mentoring Merit

@Elia LePhant has had 11 mentees, and 10 of them have gone up a rank (enough to earn the merit).

However, the merits team wants people to be a mentor at the time that their mentee goes up a rank in order for it to count. In other words, if you become a mentor when someone is Accepted (for example), and then they never go up another rank, it doesn't count. In this case, some of Elia's mentees have had enough mentors that it's unclear just from looking at their library pages. And apparently there wasn't much in the way of record keeping, so it's not just a matter of checking a spreadsheet or something.

But that really sucks, because it's not an easy merit to get, and she has definitely put in the time. So I'm hoping individuals on here might have personal records, or be friends with someone who might not be on the boards anymore, so we can sort this out.

Last I remember, you could only tag 5 people per post, so I'll break this down over a couple posts.

The easy ones:

1. Marra Madore, Yellow Sedai: only one mentor listed
2. CeNedra Doin, Yellow Sedai: only one mentor listed
3. Eliana Alarwyn, former Blue Aspirant: only one mentor listed
4. Mernea Averyl, former Accepted: only one mentor listed
5. Ashara Koh'inor, Green Sedai: only one mentor listed

6. Grond Sothron, SDS Aspirant: two mentors, assigned after the change to two mentors per person
7. Ael Nisrathe, Red Aspirant: two mentors, assigned after the change to two mentors per person


The less clear ones:

8. @Avendaella Tikvah, Yellow Sedai: two mentors listed (the other being @Khisanth al'Danya )
9. @Mendo Cath, Aes Sedai: multiple mentors listed, but this was after the change to two mentors per person. Only two are listed as Aes Sedai, but one of them is @Jeffan Caliarthan , who would have also been an Accepted at the same time as Mendo. So, it looks like Elia would have been Mendo's Aes Sedai mentor at the time of raising to TS.

10. @Elbereth Gailbridhil, Green Sedai: she had more than one mentor (Shyana al'Veara and @Alena Mysana ), but according to Elia's records, she became Elbereth's mentor at Accepted rank through Aes Sedai.


I know @Toral Delvar is in charge of merits, but who else might have records of any of the more uncertain cases? If anyone shares a Discord etc with any of the people I tagged, can you poke them to check the thread?

Isn't going from Novice to Accept considered one rank?

If so mentoring someone from Novice, to Accepted, to Tower Sworn would be two ranks. I don't know.

We have tried to improve mentor records, but for the older ones, its often really unclear, and we don’t have dates of when mentoring started/stopped to check and see if a person rose a rank while a mentee, or if so eone was a mentor for a few months. The mentee dissapeared for a while, then came back and got someone new. I think in general, the records on people’s pages are more or less accurate, so someone might have Elia listed on their page

Avendaella: Khisanth was her mentor first, then Elia was added in February of 2018; Avendaella was raised in August of 2018.

Mendo: Elia and Vendri replaced Mendo's original mentors in March of 2015; Mendo was raised in August of 2015. (Jeffan was added later, but the only time he could have been Mendo's mentor was in 2013-2014).

Elbereth: Per the OG Tower boards, Elia was their mentor in May of 2003. While that isn't positive proof that Elia was still their mentor when they were raised Accepted in September...I'd say two circumstantial things point heavily toward that being the case. 1) That was the summer we switched from EZBoard to our first phpbb forums, and I remember both Elia and Elbereth being active throughout. 2) Tower culture was different back then; while it wasn't unheard of to swap mentors, it was uncommon enough that I'd be pretty surprised if it happened during a major tech shift, particularly given my first point.

(Also, I just realized this contradicts Elia's records...but Elbereth's sig on EZboards (or I guess they're called tapatalk now) is pretty clear about both rank and mentor.)

This is correct. When I stepped down from White I asked for a mentor. One as a way to get to know someone else and two because I always liked the program.

Plus she should totally have this merit.

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that there are still gaps in the record keeping. Just that in her situation, that's the hang up.

Essentially yes. Ael looks like one of the more clear-cut cases, since he only has two mentors on his page and he joined the Tower at a time when new TI were given two at a time. So she has probably been one of his since the beginning.

I'm not sure if the exact dates are necessary (Toral can correct me if I'm wrong), just as long as she started being his mentor while he was still a Novice.

Huh, yup. My bad. Double checking Discord, what she said was "That is my memory of it anyway. I don’t know what records show" (emphasis mine), so don't hold it against her! I was creating this thread while sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office (yay ear infection), so I botched that detail.

Elia has definitely been Ael's since the beginning. He specifically requested her. His Gaidin mentor changed, but she has always been his other.

As for the extra "mentors," that seems like something that should be fixed, but I'm not sure who handles that specifically.

I believe so. Kaldam & Verscen were mentors back in 2014 and Elia was assigned after, around Jan of 2015. I don't believe I had any other assignments after that so they would have still been my mentor at the time.
