I really hope Badali can bring some of their older pieces back, I was lucky enough to get the ring (& a cour'souvra :evil) but I regret not buying a few other bits and pieces.

I think the new style ring would likely go in a display case for me, the design has grown on me but it's not something I'd wear regularly because I'm far too clumsy

Fingers crossed for the old design! I never could manage to afford one while they were being offered and then I forgot they existed for a time. And now that I finally could have one if I wanted.... poof~ Ah well. This new collaboration gives me hope for a return to the older design if they do both. The large, show-accurate rings are, in my honest opinion, terribly ugly and miss the entire point of the ring. It's meant to be a subtle show of a power, while the shawls are meant to be the signifier.

I think they could have done some brilliant designs with proper embroidery and weaving techniques but it seems that either budget constraints or a lack of imagination has led to the leaving out of the shawls almost entirely. (One mention in six episodes, in my opinion, does not count as "included in the show.")

I agree with all of that, Cerine. I need to upload pictures of my own ring... I had it custom made, and it's silver, not gold (I really don't like it on me). The lack of shawls also made me wonder about cosplaying, for example. We do some light cosplay on our TV.net events; a great lot of us have shawls, and I wonder about members who would join just based on the show and not the books themselves, if they would wonder why we are all decked out in something that doesn't appear in the show.

It was more of a rhetorical question meant to criticise the fact that some of the main symbols of Aes Sedai have been either omitted or largely changed, some to the detriment of the original symbolism.

I think, Onis Sedai, that perhaps it is the effort of needing to explain it, when the show could have simply included it, that several people are rebelling against.

I feel like there's this tendency to blame/guilt people for not blindly and mindlessly jumping on the 'ohwowshowyay'-train and I won't stand for it. We have a right to disagree and NOT like the changes that have been made without having to feel like we're selling our firstborn to the Dark One.

And quite frankly, hiding behind the 'It's not a literal representation but just an adaptation of the books' is a weak and feeble excuse for a lot of the things they've butchered.

As you can tell, Cerine, I'm not yet cooled down enough to voice my opinion as gently and as eloquently as you are doing. So again, well said!

I can promise you that I have said very much less gentle things in private... but I do try and separate the two it's true. I might have a bit of a leg up in terms of detachment however since they've been less a part of my life in recent years than they were as a young teenager. I hope to hear your thoughts on the matter when you feel ready, Mystica Sedai.

I think you have a few more legs up on me there. I've only started reading these books in my 30s and now we're 20 years (the Light help me) further down the road and I've very much identified with the concept of being a Servant of All. I can get quite vocal when it comes to my opinions, but I've grown more selective in the kind of battles I want to spend my energy on in my 'old' age. So while the passion and opinions and thoughts are still very much alive, the will to engage, confront and tackle is not always equally present.
It was the same with the last two books. I was a big huge, humongous fan of the Gathering Storm and that gave me an enormous expectation and hope for the last two. What a disappointment that was. And I said so. And I was attacked for daring not to follow the mob blindly and obediently. And I told them exactly where to put their echo chamber. I think some of them are still sulking.

So yeah, while you have the excuse of youth, I have no such excuse. The only excuse I have is that I very strongly identify with the Servant of All concept, it is something that has always been part of my identity, even prior to the books. In addition, having rebuilt an Ajah (elsewhere, not here) from scratch, giving it an identity, a direction, a purpose and a personality for over 10 years. You don't spend a decade of your life building something and then just turn around and brush it off. At least, I'm not that capable. I should be, especially at my age, but I'm not.

The only difference between then and now is that before I would have wasted a lot of my energy on useless battles.
Now I'm trying to reserve my energy for what really matters. (I hope).

Yeah exactly, people are allowed to be salty about things that they feel should have been handled differently. And just because someone doesn't like a choice the show made doesn't mean they want the whole thing to burn, in discord there's a regular show channel and a salt channel and like every time someone gets salty in the salt channel, people try to argue with them and make excuses for the thing they're salty over, yet they don't want salt in their channel. LET THE PEOPLE BE SALTY lol
