And you said that your statement was true, which it objectively can't be. I can say Asandra was the most objective DoMod, it's a fact and you'd tell me I'm wrong AS YOU SHOULD.

I figured as much.

Also, welcome to a preview of what those two new fora will be like. I hope you all enjoy them.
This is seriously what you're afraid of?

None of you who disagree with me have even bothered to respond to the actual reasons I posted. Instead you both have prefered to attempt to take pot shots at me and those who agree with me. If you're so bothered by a couple swears and by someone laying out their argument, then, um. Yeah. Definitely do not come to the new CE.

This is not CE. If you would like to continue this type of discussion, this is news for all of us here, and you can pick it back up tomorrow in News and Politics. For now, please keep this thread clear for questions about the new forums. Thanks!

Ilu Alenya but this is you doing literally something we've bitched about for years. Every discussion with a bit of challenge or opinion gets told to move somewhere else.

I responded with the fact that you wouldn’t change your mind even though Kelgan was an objective mod. You have shown that I was correct, you did not change your mind. How did that turn into me being afraid of some swear words?

Alright, since y'all apparently want to give me a headache here, let me try to explain it. Sorry, I don't have the wherewithal to add pictures and diagrams.

This is a community.

In communities, people form friendships, and also they find people they dislike.

People, as a whole, are biased. To my knowledge, no one here is a literal robot. If you are, A) that's badass, and B) please take over this site and make it better. But moving on...

Every DoMod, mod, person with authority is biased. They will naturally look more favorably on people they are friends with, or who share their worldview, and less favorably on those they dislike or have opposing world views with.

Still with me? None of this is controversial.

So, people can, with varying degrees of success, work to mitigate their own bias when they are put in positions of power that come with decision making authority.

This involves a fair amount of personal reflection, which may not always be apparent to outside viewers. But it also involves concrete, visible actions. In places and conversations where there is conflict, power dynamics will always come into play, no matter even the best of intentions. This is why we have (had?) an explicit rule of no "sedai/gaidin"-ing in CE. Even a small, relatively unimportant and artificial power hierarchy can influence the way people interact with each other.

But. The literal barest thing you can do, as an authority figure, is recuse yourself of interactions that have the potential to create conflict, the resolution of which conflicts then fall under your authority.

It literally does not matter if, after the fact, some unbiased group goes through and looks at all of Kelgan's decisions and says "yep, you were definitely unbiased. well done". Because that's not the issue. The issue is the unwillingness to acknowledge not just optics, but the effects of those optics on both members of the community and members of the moderation team.

The inability to recognize how power dynamics affect sensitive discussions is extremely telling of the general direction moderation has gone since then, even with Asandra's correction to this particular part of the rules.

Alenya is doing her job as a super moderator- she's right to ask you all to stay on topic. If you want to discuss moderators and how you discuss things, feel free to create a new thread in General. Please keep this thread clear for questions about the new forums.

I am here to stand against the plural word 'fora' in place of 'forums' as is my God-given and Cicero-given right. Dear Lord above, will the atrocities never cease?

Thank you for correcting my Latin. That’s what’s important right now.

Dear woman, I was correcting your English. Please let me know if you'd prefer translating the entire sentence into Latin and I can help you and in that case, 'fora' will be the appropriate word.

I apologize for initially detailing this thread in defense of some comments made towards my friends that I felt were incorrect. I have seen evidence contrary to those statements, but people are allowed to believe what they want. However, I will not take responsibility for the direction it has taken.
