This is a thread were we can discuss the stuff that connects several of Sandersons books, things that relate to the Cosmere.

I am following the reread of Warbreaker that is going on on Tor.com right now. I keep wondering, does the events in Warbreaker happen before or after the events that are happening in Stormlight Archive? There is not much data to go on with in that regard, but I thin that maybe Warbreaker is after SA...

I thought that I read somewhere that Warbreaker was before SA, but A) that could have been speculation and B) I don't know where I found this info. :look:

The Coppermind fan wiki for all things Sanderson has a chronology page here:

Link

Be warned that there are massive and full spoilers for all the Cosmere works of Sanderson on that page.

However, the gist of the Chronology is that the books roughly are published chronologically in their publication order, with some exceptions.

From what we know so far and have heard from Sanderson (who is asked this often, and confesses that he hasn't entirely decided for himself yet), Warbreaker seems to take place a few centuries after Mistborn Era 1 (the first trilogy) and then before the Stormlight Archive Volume 1 (the books published so far). Interestingly, Mistborn Era 2 (the Wax and Wayne books) take place after SA Volume 1, but before the coming 5 books of SA Vol 2.

The earliest published Cosmere story right now is almost certainly Elantris, and the very farthest in the Chronology is a short story he wrote called First of the Sun (it's included in the recent Arcanum Unbounded collection.) That short story takes place many centuries after all the current published books.

As regards the story from First of the Sun (Sixth of Dusk)

A lot of people think the Ones Above may be Scadrians (Mistborn era 4 perhaps?) or people who have knowledge of era 4 Scadrian technology. If this is true, that would explain why this story is so advanced on the timeline.

That bums my theory then, that Warbreaker happened after Stormlight Archive... Now I am left to wonder if we will see Vivenna anywhere, or if it is so long after that she is dead...

I saw something somewhere recently-ish (within the past few months) where Brandon Sanderson answered a fan's question and mentioned something about Vivenna looking for Vasher currently (as in, at the current time in Stormlight Archive). I think it was from a Reddit question thread. I can't find it anymore, sadly. But I think we should see Vivenna again. I also saw something that gave me the idea that way back in the past, Vasher and Shashara got the idea to Awaken a sword after having seen shardblades... so either a Rosharan worldhopper visited them, or they visited Roshar, or...?

As far as I know, Warbreaker was actually intended to be a prologue to The Stormlight Archive.
