I found myself vaguely disappointed in some of the entries on Age of Legends items. I was in Chapter 6 (I think) of Lord of Chaos, which is all Forsaken all the time, and I looked up some things that were mentioned. The info was basically what was in the book.

For example, there was a type of pin that Sammael (I think...could have been Demandred) thought about. I looked it up, and it was something like, "a type of pin from the Age of Legends that had to be set very carefully." Set for what?? Why? Was it life or death??

I may dive into it deeper this weekend, and use the Companion to complement my re-read.

Did we know that Byar was Compulsed by Graendal? If so, that was one hint that eluded me :look:

But then, information! WHEN was he compelled? Only when they met in book 11, or before that? All the way back in book 1? Somewhere in between?

No, that was Jaichim Carridin :look: He was actually a Darkfriend, which Byar wasn't :look:

Ok I read and reread the parts about power levels of channelers and I still don't fully get how Egwene has her number than a +5 after it.. I know on some of the older Aes Sedai (or I had gathered from another discussion) that the +# after the Aes Sedai's power listing was before Egwene, Nynaeve and Aviendha came about.. Someone please help me better understand the numbers behind Egwene's and Nynaeve power levels..

That means it's 5 ranks higher than existed on the scale before, I think.

They needed a new strength system after Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne (and Aviendha and the-former-damane-who's-name-I've-temporarily-forgotten) came along, because they were so much stronger than everyone else. So the numbers in paranthesis is the new system, where more people are at the same number, and generally a higher one.

Now, the men's system, I don't understand at all :look:

I was happy to see it confirmed that the Ogier are alien.

Also, torm and the other weird animals that Seanchan have are from a parallel world. I thought there may have been a different branch of evolution on the Seanchan continent, like Australia, that led to torm and raken. I wonder if s'redit are from parallel world(s), or if they evolved naturally on Seanchan?

Also, the Red Ajah has a plan for taking over the White Tower. It's not said if it's ever been used, just that it's secret and not all Reds know about it. Other ajahs have a plan as well.

Apparently it's existed since the NS graphic novel, but I was excited to discover the script for the Old Tongue.

I thought they were all shadow spawn that were tamed when Seanchan cleared its "blight"

Cadsuane is a badass. :swordy

Her entry describes the charms in her hair, and what they do, and one of them allows her to know there's a man who can channel within 30 or 40 feet of her. Which could be how she brought 20+ men to the Tower for gentling.

Men who, by the way, survived much longer after gentling than most. Something that Cadsuane did made the men live longer than other gentled men.

Nope. I'm just looking stuff up as it comes up in the reading or in discussion. (I was talking to someone about Cadsuane's entry Sunday night, and just got around to looking at it.) I have too much other reading to do to read it straight through.

I've so far been very surprised at the power rankings and scalings.

I was very surprised that Rahvin was ranked on equal terms with Rand/Lews and Ishamael. At no point is that ever alluded to. I was certain Demandred and at least Aginor were superior to Rahvin in terms of ability

I just love some of the phrasing used and how it would never have been used that way in the series "pull him out of his funk" "on the lam" "adventures were her bag" "roundheels".

Ditto. Well, at least Demandred. Aginor I never thought of as being particularly strong in comparison to the other Forsaken, more just very clever/crafty and willing to do crazy experiments. I'd have put Rahvin below Sammael, who is below Demandred, who is below Ishamael, from what I'd picked up in the books anyway.

I suppose it makes Rand's besting of Rahvin at a relatively early point in his "career" to a bit more impressive :look:

I am, and always have been, a geographic and political nerd. I adore the new info about the different countries. Altara has been my favorite so far.

I have just noticed that the Altaran border is actually going pretty far north :look: If you study the map (yes, I am a map geek :geek) you see that Altara is actually between Ghealdan and Murandy almost all the way up to Emonds Field :look:
