That doesn't really make much sense though..? She will most likely be introduced with Elayne

I said it on Twitter, and I'll say it again here. As a fat person, I hope neither of those actresses are Verin. Representation matters, and I would hate to see one of the few explicitly large ("plump") major characters be skinny-washed like that. They've done a great job getting an otherwise diverse cast, and I would be very disappointed if they dropped the ball in terms of body size diversity.

Oh, for SURE this. Verin looks like my mom in my head, but brunette, and I've always loved that version of her. If they take away her softness and roundness, I'm going to be displeased.

SAME. Verin looks like a happy witch from a cartoon. Or a Sunday School Teacher. Or a brunette Molly Weasley.

I think Natasha O'Keefe is too old maybe for Aviendha? I can see her as Lanfear though, and that is an important role.

[casts spell: resurrect]

we've had a bunch of confirmed and rumored castings recently, so I figured I'd bump this up so we can discuss!

Ayoola Smart as Aviendha. Boy are people having .... reactions. And I'm just sitting here delighted. She's a natural ginger, she's Irish, and the clips I've seen of her she is just going to nail Aviendha's character and I cannot wait to see her on screen.

For the people complaining about her ethnicity: she's a lighter color than Megan Fox, Jennifer Lawrence, Kylie Jenner, or Mila Kunis have been so I don't think it's just that the Aiel are "supposed" to have less melanin that's got them so upset. Plus the Aiel are tan anyway so who cares? Naw the people complaining are definitely just upset she's got traditionally West African/Sub-Saharan features. And barely that. If you can't handle 4C hair and a slightly wider nose on a character, you've got issues. Plus it's not like they're declaring all Aiel look like this or something. Rand, the Stone Dog in the cage, both are pretty darn pasty and show-onlies aren't going to know Shaiel was not originally Aiel for a while.

The Aiel are Irish desert ninjas with red hair. She's got red hair, she's Irish, and she can definitely invoke the feeling of a desert ninja, so this is just a solid gold casting for me.

and the other casting I'm excited about!

Ceara Coveney as the Daughter-Heir of Andor, Elayne Trakand

I haven't watched Young Wallander yet so I don't know anything about her acting, but I trust Hendry (casting director) a lot and I think she matches my personal head canon pretty well. She's got a spunky twinkle in her promo photos I like and that I think suits Elayne. Plus she just looks like a princess to me.

These are the two biggest pieces of casting news, but there's ton more being reliably reported by WoTSeries and the like.

I really like both of them, cannot wait to see them on screen! They are both very beautiful, just like Elayne and Aviendha were described in the books, and also different enough in how they look that they won't be confused for one another (cause they could've chosen someone like the actress that would play Elayne, as Aviendha, and then they would look very similar).

Ceara just has that look of daughter heir about her.
As for Aviendha, her natural hair style doesn't matter, they can easily alter that.

I'm waiting to see who is cast as Asmodian (I'd personally love to see it later revealed that Thom is/was Asmodian. It would make his introduction song "The man who can't forget" much more telling.)

I'm loving both of the casting choices of Aviendha and Elaine, but I love the choice for Elaine just a bit more because that is damn near exactly how I pictured her in my head when I read the books. The only change is in my mind she had blue eyes, not brown. But I'm not going to begrudge that too much

I'm so excited for both of them! I think they both nail the look of their respective characters, and I can't wait to actually see them on the screen next season!

I love both of them. Ayoola has that Aiel strength.

I have to say I was tentative on the diverse cast of the Three Rivers but I think it really worked well. It led a richness to the village.

Natasha i can see as Eladia, in my mind Nina Dobrov is always young Lanfear, the Selene one. She'd have to get rid of the American accent i guess since the show has no American accents in it.

I heard that the Seanchan are sort of a Texas type accent? That was my understanding pre-TV show though, no sure if that'll be how its done on screen

oh my, i went down a bit of a rabbit hole looking for Texas accent videos. mostly found things from accent coaches and so on, describing things technically.

i did find this guy who both has a real Texas accent, and he does a funny imitation of what people sometimes think Texans sound like from movies.

(to be clear, my mom’s boyfriend, while he doesn’t talk about the same subject, does actually sound a fair bit like that imitation…just not quite as fast.)

as a Texan I’ve always been amused that that is what the Seanchan accent is supposed to resemble. it’s logical that their accent in show would be different…but Texan would be a bit jarring.
